Performs intermediate technical work determining client eligibility for federal and state income maintenance programs., and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Income Maintenance Supervisor.

Related field and considerable experience in clerical, paraprofessional, and public-contact work or moderate experience as an income maintenance caseworker, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Collect personal and financial information from clients, verify and enter that data into state database (NCFAST) to determine eligibility for federal and state aid (Food and Nutrition Services, Work First Family Assistance, Medicaid, Energy Assistance Programs, and/or Child Care Subsidy)
- Understand program policies and be able to apply them to the collection of data from individuals and families in processing applications for aid (Food and Nutrition Services, Work First Family Assistance, Medicaid, Energy Assistance Programs, and/or Child Care Subsidy)
- Processing of client applications through verification, redetermination, and review of client case(s)
- Communicates with various members of the public and internal stakeholders in the agency regarding eligibility status as appropriate and legal
- Utilize and apply Onslow County DSS guidelines to accomplish work
- Make appropriate referrals of suspected fraud to the Special Investigative Unit, via supervisor, after using prudent judgment, to determine whether information being provided by clients is factual
- Testify in court when required or compelled
- Use accurate and proper written and communication skills to conduct work
- Apply intermedial-level mathematical skills to establish and/or verify client eligibility
- Comply with all caseload and state deadlines
- Accountable for completeness and accuracy of work and the data entered into the state database
- Comply with regular review of work from supervisors and lead workers
- Make appropriate referrals of suspected abuse and/or child endangerment to the appropriate unit or agency
- Conduct work in an ethical and professional manner in carrying out program policies and procedures. Maintain confidentiality of all records as prescribed by agency policy and state law
- Performs assigned functions as a Disaster Ready Team (DRT) member
- Performs related tasks as required
- Excellent knowledge of computer programs to include data entry into a database and word processing
- Good mathematical reasoning and computational skills
- Ability to document work and interact with clients in a clear and concise manner
- Ability to conduct thorough interviews and investigations of clients
- Ability to read, comprehend, and evaluate documents from a multitude of sources.
- Ability to manage and work independently and with a team
- Maintain effective and efficient organizational processes
- Multi-task and have ability to prioritize workload.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with clients and colleagues from diverse backgrounds to obtain data, and to explain and interpret rules, regulations and procedures.
- Considerable knowledge of economic services program/areas of assignment. General knowledge of all agency services.
