We are currently partnering with a well-known fitness organization to find a Director of Accounting for a long-term contract position, with the potential for extension or conversion. This role is offering a fantastic opportunity to lead a dynamic accounting function within an exciting industry.
As the Director of Accounting , you will be responsible for overseeing the full scope of accounting operations, including financial reporting, internal controls, process improvements, and team leadership. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will play a key role in driving continuous improvement while ensuring the highest standards of compliance and accuracy.
Key Responsibilities :
Accounting Operations
Manage daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
Lead month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
Maintain and improve internal controls in compliance with GAAP standards.
Develop and document accounting policies and procedures.
Oversee royalty accounting and reporting for franchise operations.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
Prepare and analyze financial statements (income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements).
Conduct financial risk analysis and provide variance reporting with actionable insights.
Support budgeting and forecasting activities.
Systems & Process Improvement
Lead the transition from Epicor to NetSuite ERP, ensuring a seamless implementation.
Design and implement efficient processes and controls for the new ERP system.
Develop and deliver SOPs and training materials for the accounting team.
Audit & Compliance
Audit existing internal controls and recommend enhancements.
Prepare for and manage external audits.
Support ongoing compliance activities related to tax regulations and corporate tax reporting.
Team Leadership
Manage and mentor an accounting team, including an Accounting Manager and three team members.
Conduct performance analysis and promote professional development.
Foster a collaborative team environment with a focus on skill development across the department.
Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA and / or MBA preferred.
8-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a management role.
Experience in franchise or multi-location environments is a plus.
Strong knowledge of GAAP and full-cycle accounting.
ERP experience required; NetSuite experience preferred.
Proven track record of policy development, process design, and control implementation.
Experience with financial risk analysis, budgeting, and audit preparation.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment with multiple priorities.
Strong communication skills with the ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving abilities.
