JOB TITLE: District Instructional Math Coach
REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum
ANNUAL CALENDAR DAYS: 207 (10 Months)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Alabama Teacher’s Certificate with appropriate endorsement.
- Effective human relation skills.
- Professionalism, dedication, and flexibility.
- Successful implementation of math standards.
- Strong knowledge of current evidence-based best practices of effective math instruction and intervention.
- Strong knowledge of diagnostic and prescriptive techniques.
- Ability to compile and analyze data using statistical procedures to determine the effectiveness of programs.
- Strong knowledge and use of the 8 mathematical standards.
- Experience in planning or conducting professional development activities for faculty and staff.
- Ability to work cooperatively with the principal to plan and implement a highly effective instructional program.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Master’s degree is preferred but not required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist teachers in using data to differentiate instruction.
- Mentor and coach teachers.
- Facilitate schoolwide professional learning.
- Participate in training activities offered by the regional inservice center and ALSDE.
- Collaborate with the school principal to establish and implement a strategic plan.
- Collaborate with grade level teams to develop rigorous tasks, lessons, & assessments.
- Collaborate with grade level teams to foster the use of appropriate materials.
- Monitor student progress through benchmark formative assessments.
- Emphasize Tier 1 instruction.
- Model evidence-based math instructional and intervention strategies for teachers.
- Understand and support the implementation of all 8 teacher expectations (ANA p. 14)
- Collaborate with administration to develop a strategic plan for mathematics (ANA p. 24)
- Actively and collaboratively participate in support offered.
- Actively and collaboratively participate in professional learning.
- Performs other related work as required.
