What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality & Patient Safety Coordinator position at Opelousas General Health System?
Responsible for facilitating the Patient Safety Program with the goal of protecting patients from harm, and developing strategies to prevent future harm through process improvement and staff education.
Responsible for overseeing patient safety activities, which include, but may not be limited to managing and analyzing close calls and adverse patient events, conducting educational programs, leading clinical initiatives, and complying with regulatory standards with the objective of enhancing and promoting patient safety and quality care.
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
- Actively collaborates in the annual review / revision of the organization’s Patient Safety Program Plan
- Maintains current knowledge of trends and initiatives related to patient safety
- Supports patient safety initiatives through leadership, direction and active involvement
- Acts as resource, internal consultant, and educator for patient safety issues
- Develops and implements programs designed to minimize the frequency and reduce the severity of actual and potential patient safety hazards throughout the organization
- Participates in patient safety activities with other clinical disciplines—Medical Staff, Clinical Staff, Quality Management, Infection Prevention, and Risk Management
- Actively participates in RCA (Root Cause Analysis), and recommendations for improvement
- Actively participates in FMEA (Failure Mode and Event Analysis)
- Leads investigations for serious adverse events
- Participates on Hospital Committees, as assigned
- Assists the Quality and Patient Safety Manager with facilitating support of safety goals and initiatives and process improvement projects.
- Coordinates the Good Catch program to reward staff and physicians for their identification and reporting of “Good Catches”
- Any and all other duties as assigned.
Education : Associate or Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.
Certification / License : RN license in the State of Louisiana
Experience : Minimum of 5 years experience in an acute care hospital required. Previous quality, patient safety and risk management experience preferred. Experience with a variety of performance improvement methodologies including Lean, Six Sigma and / or facilitation of performance improvement projects preferred.
