Home Health Aide (HHA)

Open Arms Home Health Care is seeking part-time home health aides to provide basic patient care for home health patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). The position is for a single practice location in an assisted living facility in Dubuque. The current employment opportunities are for home health aides as follows:

Part-Time: 2nd shift 3pm to 11pm - Every other Friday and PRN

This position would be ideal for a nursing student or college student with an interest in serving the elderly population, a part-time home health aide who wants to work in an ideal environment and add hours (one location and low acuity clientele), a person who wants to learn the role and pursue a rewarding career, or a person with a flexible schedule and open hours. Open Arms is affiliated with The Rose Communities, which are licensed Assisted Living Facilities in Dubuque and Iowa at Large, and together, are leaders in offering affordable housing with home care services to the elderly population of Dubuque. This advertised position is at The Rose of Dubuque so that there is no community travel involved as is the case with other home health care positions. Compensation for Home Health Aide:

Competitive wage and benefits commensurate with applicant’s qualifications and experience. Available full-time benefits include health, dental, vision, disability, 401k, and holiday, sick and vacation.

SHIFT DIFFERENTIAL: $1.50/hour for any 2nd or 3rd shift. $1/hour for any weekend shift. For example, a weekend 2nd shift would have a shift differential of $2.50/hour.

Minimum Qualifications for Home Health Aide:

High School GED. Demonstrate ability to pass the Open Arms Home Health Aide Competency Assessment Evaluation. Possess physical strength, agilities and sensory functions necessary to perform tasks. Applicant must successfully complete the post-offer process including criminal history and background check. CPR/BLS is preferred. Must have reliable transportation to fulfill scheduled work shift assignments.

Preferred Qualifications for Home Health Aide:

Demonstrated compassion and aptitude for provision of home health care; it is preferred, but not required that the candidate has completed a nurse aide or home health aide training from an appropriate training program totaling 75 hours, which includes 16 hours of supervised practical training; 1 to 2 years’ experience as a home health aide working with elderly or ill patients; at a minimum, employees must satisfy the Open Arms competency assessment evaluation before being assigned duties.

Job Description for Home Health Aide:

This position requires bending, stooping, crouching, walking, kneeling, turning, standing for long periods of time, and lifting. Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds and assist clients to safely transfer, if required by the plan of care. 80% of time spent standing, 10% of time spent walking and 10% of time spent sitting. Must have average hearing and visual acuity. Must attend regular staff meetings and in-services to accrue 12 hours per year continuing education/training related to Home Health Care.

• Follows the written patient care plan as written by the Primary Nurse managing the client’s case
• Confirms the physician’s orders for the client’s plan of care
• Provides hands-on individualized personal cares for client
• Monitors and reports changes in the client’s condition
• Performs simple procedures as an extension of therapy services such as simple exercises as instructed by the therapist(s)
• Maintains records of patient care, condition, progress, or problems and reports and discusses observations with supervisor or case manager
• May provide light housekeeping in accordance with the client’s plan of care
• Familiarity with Microsoft programs and Windows based software is preferred.
• Agency documents clinical data and time logs via computer software
