SUMMARY OF POSITION :

In the absence of the manager, the Supervisor is responsible for the implementation and delivery of services as it relates to an all women's emergency shelter at Selah House and corresponding case management in alignment with the mission of " Restoring Hope and Changing Lives." The supervisor d irects staff and breaks on assigned shift, supports the manager in training and orienting new staff . While this role actively works shifts assigned at Selah House the Supervisor may be called to assist and / or provide direction to staff at the Samaritan's House location , an all men's emergency shelter . As a seasoned believer, shares the gospel through relational counseling. The director provides bi weekly supervision to Selah staff and completes weekly scheduling and time cards . While this position is not directly responsible for performance management the supervisor plays a critical role in observing , documenting and reporting performance and behavioral concerns to manage r , and aiding in the interview and selection process. Actively engaged in monthly meetings and may participate in community networking groups that are responsible for related services in the community.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Under the direction of Shelter Manager, implement policies and procedures on assigned shifts; note areas needing corrective attention; provide recommendation and feedback to Manager that may increase organization, facilitate programming outcomes.
  • Providing to clients and modeling to staff appropriate de-escalation techniques, completing appropriate documentation , engaging with Security team as needed or required , and providing life saving techniques as needed or required .
  • Provides input to Manager to develop or enhance processes and services, and implements goals as directed.
  • Provide direction to staff, clients and volunteers on assigned shifts;
  • Must be able to do assessments and intakes in the absence of a case managers, and understand the case manager role; providing referrals to approved community, agency and other partners based on the assessment.
  • May be responsible for shift coverage as needed or required outside of normal schedule or job site, including holidays; may be required to support Samaritan's House with rounds, coverage or assignments of case aids on designated shifts.
  • Coordinate and communicate with social service agencies about shelter issues.
  • Responsible for receiving and documenting vital information on assigned shift , including the Behavioral Incident Report and General Incident Reports, and passing on to the manager as needed or required ; utilizing email and MISSION TRACKER.
  • Provide support and encouragement to shelter staff and guests to facilitate standards and quality of services provided.
  • Attend shelter leadership meetings and facilitate staff huddles on assigned shift.
  • Communicate to facilitate referrals to Women's Transitional Program or Men's Recovery Program
  • Assess eligibility of outside referrals to ensure safety and fit to emergency shelter , collaborating and implementing intake policies of outside referrals with Shelter Manager.
  • Manage and implement shelter schedules particularly on assigned shift, and in the absence of a manager may be required to complete monthly scheduling.
  • Under the direction of the Shelter Manager, performing inventory and / or submitting order requests and purchasing requests to finance and / or maintenance.
  • Under the direction of the Shelter Manager, sorting and distributing guest mail.
  • Ensuring completion of laundry on designated shift by staff.
  • Ensure staff compliance with staff dress codes.
  • Manages the staff break schedule and ensures staff are appropriately documenting their worked time and breaks.
  • Model Open Door Mission Statement Faith and Core Values; facilitate and / or lead chapel and prayer as scheduled or in the absence of a volunteer.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Mature Christian with commitment to and a passion for impacting change in the lives of the homeless, addicted, and mentally ill
  • Demonstrates good interpersonal skills; able to relate effectively with diverse groups of people, treating all with dignity and respect
  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal skills
  • Demonstrates de-escalation
  • Models appropriate staff-staff and staff-client boundaries
  • Knowledge of co-occurring disorder; familiarity with the mental health and substance abuse
  • Effective supervisor of people; strong organizational skills with the ability to keep track of multiple things simultaneously.
  • Quick thinker, able to make accurate assessments and decisions in alignment with ODM values and purpose.
  • Trustworthy, reliable, and perceptive.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy with ability to quickly learn new programs and software
  • Valid New York state driver's license; driving record acceptable to insurance carrier to travel between shelter locations
  • CPR , First Aid and Narcan certified, with comfortability to utilize
  • WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL FACTORS :

    Occasionally = 1%-33%; Frequently = 34%-66%; Continuously = 67%-100%)

  • Requires working with a diverse population, many of whom struggle with homelessness, addiction and mental health diagnosis - continuously
  • See, hear, smell and speak clearly - continuously
  • Requires climbing stairs multiple times daily - frequently
  • Environment may be odorous due to lack of personal hygiene and intoxication of guests - frequently
  • Requires a sustained level of high energy, stamina, and the ability to move about all of the facilities on a regular and ongoing basis - frequently .
  • May be extremely loud at times - occasionally
  • May be exposed to behaviorally aggressive guests - occasionally
  • May be exposed to unsanitary conditions - occasionally
  • Must be able to work in emergency conditions - frequently
  • Ability to lift and move up to 40 lbs. - occasionally
  • Driving within the Greater Rochester regions - occasionally
  • EQUIPMENT / TOOLS USED :

    EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Associate degree in a related field, BSW preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working with the homeless population in an emergency shelter environment.
  • One year prior supervision experience, preferably in behavioral health setting
  • Salary : $40,000 - $45,000
