Salary : $20 per hour

THIS IS A PART-TIME CONTRACT POSITION

Residency Requirement

Primary residence must be in SOUTH GEORGIA
Must live within 50 miles of Valdosta / Tifton area

Job Summary

Open Hand Cooking Matters (OHCM) is focused on the low-income population in Georgia who are at risk of hunger and are more susceptible to obesity and other behavior-based risk factors and diseases. The Cooking Matters Satellite Instructor will support the mission of Open Hand / Atlanta providing nutrition education with Cooking Matters’ Share Our Strength 6-week Curricula and cooking demonstrations in South Georgia region.

Supervisory Responsibilities

None

Duties / Responsibilities

Market program and build partnerships in the community to build awareness, credibility, and demand.

Lead at least 12 Cooking Matters classes in South Georgia health district (area defined in state contract), as well as cooking demonstrations, and grocery store tours as needed.

Identify and formally partner with appropriate community agencies to host Cooking Matters courses and recruit course participants

Plan and administer program orientations and trainings for new satellite site volunteers.

Work with agency staff to schedule classes and carry out shared expectations and responsibilities for hosting a course.

Required Skills / Abilities

Ability to work with people from a variety of racial, cultural, and economical backgrounds with various lifestyles and of all ages, including professional chefs, social service providers, volunteers, and low-income participants.

Ability to perform simple math calculations as it applies to program reporting.

Ability to solve practical problems and transfer current knowledge to new situations.

Ability to enter data into a relational database, utilize Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including the ability to make public presentations.

Requires ability to work individually in a self-directed manner and as part of a team in group projects.

Requires ability to effectively market a program and pursue outreach opportunities.

Requires excellent organizational skills, proven ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks, and to meet

Education / Experience

Bachelor’s degree in a health, culinary, or nutrition field, or equivalent experience

Knowledge of local community services and resources / programs available to populations served by the program

Physical Requirements

The employee is required to walk, stand, drive a car, and lift and / or move 25 pounds.
