Job Description/Assistant Teacher
Qualifications:
To assist the teacher in providing direct care and a positive relationship with all children enrolled and their families. To provide a positive role model by following the philosophy of Open Sesame.
Educational Requirements:
Must have a High School Diploma or equivalence certificate ( GED ).
2-year college preferred.
Experience working with children.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift 45 pounds.
Must be able to: repetitive bending, stretching, stooping
Must have mobility to ensure the safety of the children.
Must be able to work out of doors in any variety of weather.
Must be fully capable to have visual or hearing capabilities consistent with DCFS Licensing.
Annual Training Required:
Twenty hours of professional development training annually.
CPR and First Aid training with in the first 90 days of employment and thereafter maintain a current card.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:including the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Arrives prepared for the day at the time scheduled by the director.
Greets each child in a warm and friendly manner.
Assists teacher in checking in each child and accounting for absences.
Assists teacher in implementing a variety of age appropriate activities by interacting with the children.
Assists and supports free play time.
Supervises activities to promote learning experiences for children in a harmonious, safe, and caring environment.
Supervise children at all times including use of restrooms.
Assists teacher in planning and implementing excursions away from the center or site.
Assist in meal time and snack time activities including sitting and eating with the children.
Performs additional program duties as assigned by the teacher or director.
Non Essential Job Functions:
Must attend all Open Sesame Child Care Center staff meetings and trainings as required/needed.
Participates in center functions including Open House, Family Picnic, Winter Program, and other special events.
Supports decisions made by management for the good of center operations.
Establish and maintain a current personnel file by complying with DCFS licensing standards to include, a physical including TB test every 2 years, a current CPR and First Aid card, record of on going training, 3 written references, background check, record of valid drivers license, current transcripts or copy of high school diploma, emergency contact information, record of mandated reporter training, record of receipt of employee handbook, record of receipt of Child’s Chronic Behavior and Discipline Policy.
Other non essential duties:
Classroom Housekeeping: Must be willing to perform and / or supervise light housekeeping duties to include;
Daily set up and take down of the room.
Sweep floor each day after snack or meals.
Remove garbage as needed.
Wash and sanitize the tables before and after all meals.
Wash and sanitize the refrigerator weekly. Take internal temperature daily and record.
Wash and sanitize toys as needed.
