What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Manager position at Opportunities?
The Accounting Manager is responsible for leading the Banking as a Service (BaaS/Fintech) Accounting Operations team including completion of related Accounting team projects, detailed review and problem resolution related to the invoicing process for BaaS arrangements, and tracking contract requirements related to accounting for FinTech partners. This role will also oversee the BaaS reconciliation process and develop and maintain related accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
Fintech Partner Support
- Owning and understanding the reconciliation infrastructure of each Fintech Program within the BlackLine platform.
- Creating and maintaining Fintech process and funds flows.
- Monthly/quarterly Fintech Partner invoicing.
- Partnering with IT on data completeness checks and assisting in resolving missing data files with Fintech Partners.
- Overhaul of processes to incorporate the newly created enterprise data lake. This includes but is not limited to overhauling the existing invoice process to incorporate completeness checks to existing contracts as well as identification of new codes to monitor that billing is done appropriately, monitoring new data feed types to update matching rules as necessary, and ensure timely reconciliation and any potential settlements with the Partner.
- Create, establish processes around, and maintain a “reconciliation health board” that allows leaders to actively assess and understand outstanding volumes, age of items, etc. as it pertains to each Partner/Program.
- Oversee the Monthly Health Reporting of the reconciliation and invoice related inputs, providing transparency around status of the reconciliation function to leaders and Partners. Establish additional KRIs to be included.
- Support the Assistant Controller in the management of Fintech Partner relationships, creating strong partnerships to allow for timely resolution of identified issues and foster an environment of collaboration among parties. Be a trusted resource to internal and external stakeholders, providing suggestions and feedback on changed and/or new products.
- Lead quarterly data audits to ensure all transactions are being reconciled/matched timely, nothing is incorrectly being “filtered” out from reconciliation (i.e., true reconciliation of 100% of transactions), and review manually matched transactions to identify opportunities to streamline/automate by partnering with teams owning upstream processes.
- Hold teams accountable for established matching turnaround timelines based on transaction types.
Accounting Operations
- Responsible for the implementation of new accounting standards, when assigned, to ensure efficiency, integrity, and compliance.
- Ensure accounting is completed timely, accurately, and completely.
- Assist the Finance department with complex accounting projects, including responsibility for key deliverables, as needed.
- Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end close for areas of responsibility.
- Prepare schedules for external financial reporting for areas of responsibility.
- Prepare accurate and detailed reconciliations with supporting documentation on regular cadences.
- Aid in establishing new accounting processes and procedures for new products and/or programs within the Company.
- Assist in gathering information requested during internal and external audits.
- Support the design and execution of effective internal controls in the Finance group, including identifying the need for additional controls in new processes.
- Identify test plans and perform testing of software changes/updates, if needed.
Leadership
- Conduct regular one-on-ones to align cultural & business objectives, prioritize the most important work and coach to high performance.
- Facilitate execution through effective situational leadership tools.
- Support engagement and action by listening to team member feedback – what’s working, what’s not – support them in initiating and executing positive changes and provided them with adequate resources.
- Support in the team members professional and personal.
- Catch team members being approximately right through timely, individualized recognition.
- Promote collaboration and face to face interaction.
Qualifications
- 8 to 10 years of relevant experience with data auditing, which includes analyzing, interpreting, cleaning, mapping and reconciling data, along with some prior managerial experience.
- BlackLine user experience a plus.
- Demonstrated initiative to serve as a resource for team members and independently manage projects
- Identifies opportunities for and leads implementation of process improvements
- Represent the Accounting function in various organizational projects/initiatives.
- Lead the analysis of work results and drive strategic suggestions and conclusions.
- Expertly prioritize and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
- Challenge and overhaul existing processes, providing innovative solutions.

The base salary for this role will begin at $82,900 and up to $124,340 Annually. This pay range is posted to comply with wage transparency laws. The base salary may vary based on skill, ability, knowledge, experience and geographic location. Full time employees are also eligible for a competitive bonus and benefits package.
