Hastings Insurance is currently looking for a Claim Technician to join our Claim Operational Oversight team! The Claim Technician will support day-to-day claim processing including first notice of loss, mail flow processing, accurate financial and statistical coding entries, medical payment processing, answering phones, and customer service support.

Position Location & Work Format

  • This is a full-time, non-exempt (hourly) position, typically working Monday - Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. 
  • Employees must be able to work at our Hastings, Michigan corporate headquarters, either on a daily basis or in a "hybrid" arrangement of both on-site and remote-based work. 

Position Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensures that all financial and coding entries are completed properly and accurately in the Claim system of record, document retrieval system, and policy administration system.
  • Acts as a customer service representative by providing pertinent information to insureds, agents, and all other callers in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Organizes and prioritizes all tasks to complete critical items timely.
  • Indexes and matches incoming mail.
    Distributes incoming faxes to appropriate claim handlers to ensure the handler can promptly facilitate the loss adjustment.
  • Accurately maintains the unit’s filing of claim documents and files to ensure effective unit productivity.
  • Serves as support for other claim personnel.
  • Actively participates in professional development, i.e. continuing education or self-improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned by leadership, either verbally or in writing.

Candidate Requirements & Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED certificate is required.
  • Ability to type a minimum of 50 words per minute with 90% accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially telephone etiquette.
  • Ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Experience working effectively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated PC skills including basic use of Microsoft Office products.
  • Good time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and complete work and/or projects effectively.
