What are the responsibilities and job description for the OB TECH position at Opportunities?
Full time 7:00am-7:00pm.
Assists surgeons and nursing personnel in the OR. Adheres to unit aseptic standards. Assembles necessary supplies for the surgical procedures. Assists the surgical team by passing instruments and related items as needed. Performs general and unit specific receptionist and secretarial duties. Assumes responsibility for maintaining adequate unit stock. Complies with unit aseptic standards. Assists with direct patient care as deemed necessary by the Charge Nurse and/or OB Manager.
Education and Formal Training: High School diploma or equivalent. Graduate from an accredited surgical tech program is desired. NC CNAI certification required. BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required. New employees required to have certification will be expected to have current certification at new hire or obtain within 30 days of hire date.
Work Experience: Previous secretarial experience preferred. Previous OR Tech experience desired but not required will provide on the job training
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Needs to be willing to learn and perform different procedures. Also needs to have excellent communication skills to work directly with nurses, anesthesia, and physicians. Willingness to learn sterile technique, instruments, and correct passing techniques. Needs to also be willing to learn different equipment and knowledge to operate that equipment. Must demonstrate an ability to respond to changing workloads and to perform in an accurate and precise manner in crisis and emergency situations when time is critical. Must demonstrate an even temperament, tact, sensitivity, sound judgment, and a professional attitude. Must insure that all contracts with patients, the public, physicians, and other hospital personnel are carried out in a friendly, courteous, and considerate manner.
