• Located at Maintenance Facility Building (15150 Technology Drive, Eden Prairie, MN 55344)
• Typical hours are 7:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.; must be available to work after hours and weekends. Must report to the city within 45 minutes while “listed as available”.

Responsibilities

This position is responsible for maintaining the right-of-way using hand tools, power equipment and mechanized equipment to perform a wide variety of maintenance activities within the public right of way including patching, mowing, snow plowing, concrete repair, and street sweeping. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are:

• Demonstrates strong mechanical aptitude to perform a variety of maintenance activities using hand, power and heavy equipment including pickups, dump trucks, compressor/air tools, chainsaws, skid steer loader, front loader, grader, tractors, sweepers, rollers, chipper, and bucket truck. Assist our sign and signal technical areas with installations, maintenance and construction. Performs daily preventative maintenance and pre-trip DOT inspections. Complete special projects as assigned by the Streets Division Manager.
• Develops and applies specialized skills to the division needs in such areas as carpentry, welding, advanced repairs. Provides training in specialized skill to co-workers. Looks for opportunities to develop and use technical knowledge to support the efficiency and effectiveness of operations.
• Demonstrates safe equipment operation and working conditions in traffic on city streets and entering confined spaces. Reads maps, performs division record keeping and utilizes computer technology to assist in these activities.
• Actively participates in educational requirements to maintain appropriate licensing or certificates.
• Responds to and resolves customer issues and complaints. Professionally represents the city to outside organizations. Respond to citizen and police department complaints regarding down or damaged street signals.

While these areas are the primary focus of this position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree or two-year technical degree not required, but preferred; a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-Class A) with air brakes and tanker endorsement is required within 6-months of employment.
• Minimum of two years of related experience preferred; other trade experience preferred in concrete, road construction, landscaping, welding, electrical, etc.
• Occasionally exertion of force in excess of 50 and/or up to 100 pounds to move objects or equipment accessories is required. Must be able to exert 20-50 pounds of force frequently to move objects.
• Most work is performed in a field environment involving working inside and outside of vehicles.  Seasonal conditions can include excessive heat or cold.  Conditions can include working in wet, muddy, slippery or dusty and windy conditions. At these times there may be intermittent exposure to very disagreeable working conditions. There is often exposure to traffic and moving equipment.
• Minimum of three years of experience related to tree trimming required.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel) required.
• Candidates must successfully complete and pass the City’s evaluation of the pre-employment process prior to their first day of employment. Pre-employment processes for this position includes a pre-employment physical, drug and alcohol test, professional reference checks, background check, driver’s license check, CDL process, work verification and education verification if applicable. Must maintain an excellent driving record and a valid Minnesota Driver’s License.
