Optim Medical Center Tattnall is seeking a full time Central Sterile Processing Technician for our Reidsville, GA location
GENERAL DUTIES: Responsible for all activities related to sterile processing including decontamination, packaging, sterilization, and storage of surgical instrumentation and equipment. Follows quality assurance and quality improvement in compliance with policies and procedures. Adheres to best practice by following all regulatory, federal, and state recommended practices and guidelines as stated by (but not limited to) AAMI (Association of Advancement of Medical Instrumentation), AORN (Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses), AAAHC (Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Healthcare), CMS (Centers of Medicaid & Medicare), and APIC (Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology).
REPORTING: Reports to the Surgical Coordinator
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Frequent standing and walking or other means pf mobility for extended periods of time. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires normal visual acuity and hearing. Requires exposure to germicidal agents and anesthesia gases. Requires working under stress in emergency situations or during irregular hours.
WORKING CONDITIONS: May be exposed to communicable diseases, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a clinical environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Cleans, decontaminates, wraps, and sterilizes equipment and instruments.
- Directly responsible for all Sterile Processing Department (SPD) functions.
- Ensures sterile equipment is available to support case flow and room turnover.
- Monitor surgery schedule to ensure equipment/instruments are ready and available.
- Maintain surgical instrument tray inventory list that includes storage location.
- Maintain the accuracy of count sheets for all instrument trays.
- Maintain the integrity of the electronic instrument tracking system, if available.
- Maintain all sterilization /biological logs.
- Inspects and ensures proper functioning of instruments and equipment; facilitates the replenishment of low, broken or missing items.
- Assembles instruments, equipment, and supplies required for surgical procedures according to Physician’s preference Cards.
- Monitors biological indicators for evidence of complete sterilization.
- Maintains supplies and restocks sterile work area and implant trays.
- Maintains proficiency in knowledge of surgical instruments, equipment, and A.O.R.N. standards of asepsis.
- Participates in the performance improvement related to sterilization with the assistance of the Operating Room Coordinator.
OTHER JOB DUTIES:

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Knowledge of the principles and practices techniques of medical and surgical care to assist in providing patient care and treatment.
- Knowledge of surgical positioning of patients.
- Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, treatment, and surgical procedure.
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to maintain a safe work environment.
- Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
- Ability to maintain quality control standards.
- Ability to communicate clearly.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Completion of coursework for Central Service/Surgical Technology from an accredited school.
- Certification as Central Sterile Technologist preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Three years of experience in a hospital operating room setting as sterile processing technician.
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE
Certified Registered Central Sterile Technologist (CRCST) from International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) required within one year of hire.
CPR Certification.
