The ideal candidate will have prior healthcare experience and familiarity with medical terminology. This individual will maintain accuracy and confidentiality while filing medical records to ensure quality patient care.
Responsibilities:
- Manage all incoming and outgoing referrals, ensuring accuracy and completeness of information.
- Communicate with healthcare providers to obtain necessary documentation and information for referrals.
- Coordinate appointments for patients with specialist providers as per referral guidelines.
- Verify insurance coverage and obtain pre-authorizations for referred services.
- Maintain updated records of referral activities, including tracking referral status and outcomes.
- Act as a liaison between patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies to resolve any referral-related issues.
- Educate patients on their referral process, including necessary steps and required documentation.
- Collaborate with internal departments to ensure timely and efficient processing of referrals.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to referral processes.
- Stay current with insurance regulations and guidelines pertaining to referrals.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in referral coordination or a related role.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and insurance procedures.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in using electronic medical records (EMR) and referral management systems.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and patient privacy laws.
- Willingness to adapt to changes in policies, procedures, and technology.
