AmeriCare Health & Retirement, Inc., a local San Diego based company headquartered in coastal north county Solana Beach, owns and operates award-winning senior living communities known as Silvergate Retirement Residences. AmeriCare employs over 330 team members and its home office leads and manages these communities with centralized: Finance, HR, Marketing, Development, and its Executive team.
Requirements
- Oversee all aspects of the HR Function for staff members, management, and leadership team members (recruiting, training, onboarding, payroll, performance evaluation, benefits, employee relations, safety, work comp, discipline, terminations, unemployment, and employment verification)
- Act as a strategic partner with the members of the operations team.
- Hire, train, manage, mentor and evaluate the performance of HR staff and Business Office Managers to increase their effectiveness, understanding of the HR function, and reduce risk.
- Refine and oversee orientation programs and trainings for all non-exempt staff members to assure compliance with the law and corporate policies.
- Coordinate closely with local sites and legal team on any employment-related claims and workplace investigation for the company including: workers comp., harassment, discrimination, hostile work environment, etc.
- Oversee the development and administration of employee performance review, development, reward and recognition programs.
- Oversee recruiting advertising for company and communicating website changes to marketing
- Oversee payroll system to assure training, legal compliance and timely execution.
- Capable of filling-in and performing the duties of the Human Resource managers periodically.
- Manage & update job descriptions/functions to assure consistency & relevance.
- Conduct periodic salary comparisons reviews in the local marketplace.
- Manage annual HR audit and implement corrective/recommended improvements.
- Oversee training programs for supervisors and managers and provide HR coaching to help them improve in their management abilities.
Other Responsibilities:
- As needed, proactively assist customers within the guidelines outlined in our Customer Service Standards.
- Ensure the handling and communication of confidentiality is appropriately upheld by HR staff members.
- Oversee the handling of unemployment and workers’ compensation claims.
- Serve as company counsel on matters of labor laws and human rights legislation and compliance.
- Ensure company is compliant with Federal and State employment law.
- Promote a positive atmosphere and strong team work.
- Assist with annual and special projects assigned by Company President.
- Lead efforts to win annual Best Place to Work award.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- The individual in this position supervises the HR Team, providing leadership and guidance to ensure the successful execution of HR strategies and initiatives.
Education and Experience:
- Education: Bachelor's degree preferred; HR certification programs and/or PHR and SPHR certification highly desirable.
- Experience: A comprehensive HR generalist background with a minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible HR management experience.
- Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of employment, benefits, and wage & hour laws and regulations required.
- Skills: Must possess strong written and verbal communication, active listening, and superior interpersonal skills.
Qualifications:
- Must have 10-15 years of exempt level HR experience with at least 8 years of HR department leadership responsibility.
- Very strong communication, organization, listening, and customer/staff member service skills.
- Excellent human relation skills including approachability, patience, neutrality, confidentiality, and professionalism.
- Proven leadership and team-building skills with the ability to constructively address performance issues.
- Strong facilitation and mediation skills.
- Ability to travel between stores.
- Intermediate math skills.
- Must be computer literate with experience in Windows, Outlook Express, Word and Excel.
Non-standard work schedule, travel or environmental requirements
The position is an in-person job working Monday-Friday and based in Solana Beach, CA. It is primarily on-site, but does periodically require visiting multiple locations in the San Diego area as needed. A portion of the job duties may be performed remotely on approved days.
Compensation & Benefits
We have a competitive total compensation package that offers an annual salary; medical, dental, vision, life, short-term, and long-term disability insurance; 401(k) retirement plan; Paid time off (PTO); and performance bonus potential.
Pay Range: $140,000 - $160,000
We will evaluate a variety of factors in determining individual pay decisions which may include relevant education, experience, and skills; internal equity; complexity and responsibility of the role; and market demand relative to the position.

While performing the duties of this job, this employee often works in an office environment. The employee may be required to drive to other locations and in those cases might be subject to moving mechanical parts and vibration. Noise levels at some client locations can be loud at times.
