The Digital Accessibility Testing Intern will conduct assist software developers, data scientists, and UI/UX specialists in operationalizing digital accessibility metrics, visualizations, and reports based Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and PDF/UA standards for digital content and tools -- websites, documents, and software applications. Our goal is to identify a candidate who would work full-time during the summer and possibly part-time during the school year.
Responsibilities:
- Specify and operationalize additional accessibility metrics based on the Lazar, Gunderson et al. article
- Create crosswalk between and among accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG, PDF/UA) and accessibility testing tools (i.e., FAE Util, WAVE, ASPOSE).
- Specify visualizations and draft content based on new accessibility metrics.
- Draft plain language descriptions of accessibility errors and solutions.
Education & Experience:
- Actively working towards a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Information Sciences or Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Communications, or related field.
- Knowledge and experience with web technologies and/or web content management systems.
- Experience with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) accessibility standards and guidelines, accessibility audit and quality assurance tools and processes, preferred.
- Experience using common assistive technologies including screen readers magnifiers and voice recognition products.
- Experience supporting accessibility testing on multiple platforms and browsers including iOS and Android mobile devices.
- Knowledge of Job Access With Speech (JAWS) and NonVisual Desktop Access (NVDA), preferred.
- Working toward becoming a certified Trusted Tester v5, would be a plus.
