JOB DESCRIPTION
PART-TIME
Prepares media, chemical solutions, and other materials for all biology and chemistry teaching labs. Serves as the person that orders, receives, tracks, and dispenses supplies for the Biology & Chemistry Storerooms.
This is a part-time 10-month hourly position.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepares microbiology media, chemical solutions, and other materials for biology and chemistry teaching labs under the direction of faculty members.
- Assists instructors and laboratory assistants in the performance of their lab duties.
- Orders supplies and equipment for the department which requires submitting orders to purchasing, following up with vendors when orders are delayed, and checking to make sure orders have been invoiced.
- Sees that all labs are clean and in proper compliance with OSHA safety guidelines, e.g., Material Safety Data Sheets provided for each chemical in the department and in the lab where the chemical is housed.
Maintains inventory of all chemicals.
REQUIREMENTS
- Must be knowledgeable in operation of basic biology equipment such as automatic pipettes, autoclave, stirrers and hotplates, spectrophotometers, fume hoods, microscopes, weigh balance, water baths, pH meters, and lab dishwashers.
- Storeroom and / or media preparation experience is desirable.
- Knowledgeable in the operation of basic science equipment.
- Able to effectively deal with students in a professional manner.
- Self-motivated.
- Good verbal and written communication.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Be able to effectively deal with persons from a variety of cultural backgrounds.
- Capable of exercising sound judgment regarding organizational and departmental regulations, procedures, and policies.
- Maintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
- Must maintain a high level of confidentiality of information.
- Maintains compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) policy and its procedures.
