Job Title: Mental Health Coordinator
Reports To: Principal/Director of Student Affairs/Special Services Coordinator
Job Goal: To support students in resolving personal, social, and emotional issues and increase parental support/participation in the education of their child(ren).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in social work, sociology, or related area
- Experience in school related issues involving children and parents
- Proficiency in oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrates aptitude or competence for assigned duties or responsibilities
- Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board might find appropriate and acceptable
Performance Responsibilities:
- Provide services to students to ensure their educational success, in consultation with designated principals and other school staff
- Develop and implement programs to help build a positive partnership between the home and the school
- Maintain a professional knowledge of state law, board policy and administrative regulations related to student attendance and welfare
- Develop, disseminate and implement a rotating visitation schedule for each school
- Develop programs and acquire resources that will assist parents, teachers, and paraprofessional work more effectively with students
- Serve as liaison between the schools, the parents, the courts, the police authorities and other community agencies to include the Department of Human Resources
- Make appropriate social investigations and provide needed assistance, services or referrals for pupils who exhibit excessive absenteeism, continuous inappropriate behavior, and apparent neglect
- Maintain appropriate records on the targeted students and parents
- Collaborate and cooperate with district attendance officers, principals, and guidance counselors in the planning and execution of parental involvement programs and activities
- Submit and present formal and informal reports
- Attend meetings and conferences for continuous professional development and for application with students and parents
- Assist with the development of policies and procedures for parental involvement
- Arrange for parent/teacher conferences and other meetings involving parents so they will remain informed about their children’s progress and school related activities
- Implement strategies and maintain evidence of improvements in one or any combination of the following areas:
- Number of students promoted in Grades 3, 6, and 9
- Increase in attendance/reduction in the number of suspensions
- Properly uses and cares for equipment and material resources of the school system
- Supports and complies with school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations
- Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned by supervisor(s)
Terms of Employment/Salary: 9, 10, or 12 months as assigned / To be determined, commensurate with local salary matrix, credentials, and experience.
Evaluation: Performance to be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Certified/Classified Personnel.
