POSITION: Communications Intern
DEPARTMENT: Communications
REPORTS TO: Sr. Director, Communications
STATUS: Internship, Unpaid, Onsite
SUMMARY: This is an exciting opportunity for an individual interested in a career in Communications/Public Relations. Intern will observe, learn and develop skills necessary to explore career opportunities within the chosen field. Individual may qualify for college credit if allowed by their college/university. This position is an unpaid internship.
LEARNING EXPERIENCE
Intern will learn and be exposed to:
- Inner workings of a major non-profit sports and event organization
- Detailed and hands on operations of a Communications Department
- Assist with media operations of Orange Bowl events, such as the AutoNation Orange Bowl Basketball Classic and the Capital One Orange Bowl
- Develop and enhance skills of researching statistics and information, studying, updating, maintaining, filing and distributing of news clippings
- Learn about distribution of press releases internally and externally
- Understand tasks associated with OBC archival history (old game programs, game films & videos for all events, event photography)
- Enhance skills of reviewing content and proofreading of publications and website
- Other opportunities as may be available
PREREQUISITES
- Pursuing a degree and/or career in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or Media Relations
- Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, and Excel and typing skills. PowerPoint, Photoshop, Publisher, and InDesign a plus
- Ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds
Note: Preferred commitment of a minimum of 20 hours a week consistent with academic demands/schedule.
