We are currently seeking temporary teachers to join our dynamic programs at ACCESS and Special Education – Connections programs.
The OCDE ACCESS, a WASC-accredited program, serves students from Transitional Kindergarten (TK) to adults in Orange County, offering unique educational opportunities that focus on both academic and socio-emotional development through a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS). By working closely with local districts, ACCESS provides alternative pathways to prepare students for success in college and careers.
The OCDE Special Education Services Division operates Connections - Empowering Every Learner, which serves students with significant disabilities, emotional disturbances, and those who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) across 48 classes on 13 different sites in Orange County. Referred by their district of residence, students receive individualized educational programs tailored to meet their unique needs. Connections provide a low student-to-staff ratio in structured classroom settings, offering a curriculum aligned with California State Standards. The program emphasizes addressing students' emotional and behavioral needs while also providing opportunities for career technical education (CTE), community-based instruction, and vocational training, all aimed at preparing students for their present and future success.
Candidates for these temporary teaching positions must hold a valid California Teaching Credential relevant to the specific classroom setting, :
• ACCESS (General Education): Multiple Subject or Single Subject Teaching Credential.
• ACCESS, SPED (Mild/Moderate): Credential authorizing instruction in Special Education for students with Mild/Moderate Disabilities.
• SPED (Moderate/Severe): Credential authorizing instruction for students with Moderate/Severe Disabilities.
• SPED (Visual Impairments): Credential authorizing instruction for students with visual impairments. The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) serves some of Orange County’s most vulnerable student populations and provides support and mandated fiscal oversight to 28 school districts serving more than 600 schools and approximately 475,000 students.
In addition to providing direct instruction to students through its own alternative and special education programs, OCDE administers an array of programs and services that are critical to the operations of local school districts and community colleges, facilitating professional development, legal guidance, payroll, career and technical education support, high-speed internet access, Local Control and Accountability Plan assistance and approval, resources for families, and student enrichment.

Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities is:
• Experience working in alternative educational settings or charter schools teaching at-promise students preferred. OR
• Experience working in a public school setting with students who have Moderate to Severe Disabilities.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university.
Licenses, Certificates, and Special Requirements:
• ACCESS (General Education): Valid California Multiple Subject or Single Subject Teaching Credential.
• ACCESS, SPED (Mild/Moderate): Valid California Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in Special Education for students with Mild/Moderate Disabilities.
• SPED (Moderate/Severe): Valid California Teaching Credential authorizing instruction for students with Moderate/Severe Disabilities.
• SPED (Visual Impairments): Possession and maintenance of a valid California teaching credential authorizing instruction in special education for students with visual impairments.
• Basic Skills Requirement: Meet the California Basic Skills Requirement through one of the methods listed on Form CL-667 (California Commission on Teacher Credentialing website - www.ctc.ca.gov).
• English Learner Authorization (EL): All new teachers must possess an authorization to provide instruction for English Language Development (ELD) and Specially Designed Academic Instruction Delivered in English (SDAIE) to English learners. Appropriate credentials include CLAD, BCLAD, or Certificate of Completion of Staff Development.
