General Description: The purpose of this job is to ensure vehicles with solid waste are weighed upon entry and exit at landfill. Also generate various reports, collections, and billing information.This class works under close to general supervision according to set procedures, but determines how or when to complete tasks.Duties and Responsibilities: The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.• Operate automatic scale system to measure the weight of solid waste and other materials that will be disposed.• Provide professional and courteous customer service to in-staff and the general public either by telephone, electronically, or face-to-face. Answers questions from residents, businesses and site operators.• Direct incoming vehicles to dumping area.• Prepare various reports including account billing, funds collections, volume, recycling, equipment data, personnel, and production.• Issue weigh tickets to drivers and collect appropriate fee when applicable.• Prepare and maintain records that provide details of the measure and type of material to be disposed.• Issue and renew vehicle permits.• Contact various businesses to schedule pick-up of recyclables; coordinates delivery and pick-up of containers for special projects, community clean-ups, etc.• Requisition and receive invoices for needed supplies and materials for scale house, landfill, and convenience sites; forwards to finance office for payment.• Inspect inbound material to ensure they meet Class II Landfill specifications.• Performs other duties and related work as instructed and assigned.Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: • Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one year of college.• Requires some experience in landfill operations and control.• Clerical skills.Physical Demands: Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movementPerforms light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of mechanical or electronic office or shop machines or tools within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment): • Involves routine and frequent exposure to: Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen.Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions.Extreme noise levels, Animals/wildlife.Vibration; Fumes and/or noxious odors.Traffic; Moving machinery.Special Certifications and Licenses: • Must possess and maintain valid state Driver’s License.Americans with Disabilities Act Compliance: Orangeburg County is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
