Instructional Aide - Math and Reading

General Information:
- A ten-month, part-time, hourly academic aide for math and reading (grades 5-8)
- Work with individual or small groups of students under the direction of the classroom teacher
- Other duties, such as carpool monitor or lunch/recess supervisor, determined by the Head of School as needed
- 4-5 hours per week / afternoon

Responsibilities (Instructional Aide - Math and Reading):
Assisting the classroom teacher as needed; using teaching and/or supervisory techniques that support the mission and philosophy of the school; supporting student behaviors as described in the Family Handbook; ensuring classroom management and maintaining a respectful and safe environment; leaving appropriate documentation for the classroom teacher and school administration as needed; and other responsibilities to be determined by school administration as needed.
Job Description (Instructional Aide - Math and Reading):
The Instructional Aide - Math and Reading is responsible for the following essential duties:
- Work in a classroom setting by providing targeted instruction to individuals or small groups of students
- Provide clerical support to the classroom teacher
- Manage student behaviors, support student learning and student assessments
- Arrange supplies and materials for student use
- Follow school curriculum under the supervision of the classroom teacher
- Report progress regarding students’ performance and behavior. Evaluate student progress in a wide variety of skills.
- Assist students by providing proper examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude and general guidance
- Provide general support with organizational skills and executive functioning skills
- Perform related duties as required to accomplish the responsibilities and essential duties of the position
Essential Skills (Instructional Aide - Math and Reading):
Candidates hold the following skill set: completion of High School or equivalent (GED); knowledge of the basic subjects taught, including arithmetic, pre-algebra, algebra, grammar, spelling, language and reading sufficient to assist students with individual or group studies; experience working with children in a classroom or other organized setting preferable; ability to understand and be sensitive to the needs and differences of children and to reach and motivate them; ability to perform classroom support duties with minimum supervision; strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills; ability to complete all reports and communicate with parents, faculty, and the administration in a professional manner; strong orientation towards teamwork; appreciation for the mission of the school.
