Principal Environmental Remediation Engineer

@Orchard LLC has an immediate contract-to-hire opportunity to work for a well-established solutions provider within the defense, intelligence, and critical infrastructure sectors. We are seeking an experienced Environmental Remediation Engineer in Bridgewater, NJ. The position, however, will require travel to suppliers, clients, site investigation locations, or construction site locations within the New York City area. The period of performance is 4-6 months with a full-time employment opportunity after the contract period.
Job Description:
The Principal Environmental Engineer will work as part of a team of experts, supporting various environmental projects, including soil, sediment, and groundwater remediation, from initial investigations through construction and site closeouts. Primary scopes of work will be associated with the former Manufactured Gas Plant sites.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership and expertise on complex environmental remediation projects, including those involving soil, sediment, and groundwater.
- Serve as the Project Engineer on medium to large-scale projects, with responsibility for the work of the engineering team.
- Plan, direct, and supervise major engineering activities on projects with significant manpower and financial investment.
- Lead and mentor other engineers and design personnel on environmental projects.
- Ensure design compliance with all applicable codes and regulations; provide professional engineering seal and signature as required.
- Prepare material and equipment specifications and purchase requisitions; review supplier data and witness shop tests.
- Develop operation and maintenance plans, standard operating procedures, and O&M manuals; conduct on-site personnel training.
- Conduct site surveys, studies, and investigations; perform reliability, availability, maintenance (RAM), and safety analyses.
- Maintain active affiliation with relevant professional societies to remain current on industry technologies and best practices.
- Develop budget estimates and staffing requirements; assist with related administrative and technical tasks.
- Prepare and present technical papers and reports; review and contribute to technical documents prepared by others.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in environmental remediation engineering.
- Master's degree in Engineering is strongly preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) site investigation and remediation, including current remedial technologies.
- Proficiency in relevant engineering software.
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration is preferred; candidates with the ability to obtain PE registration within 12 months will also be considered.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage environmental remediation projects effectively.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong understanding of industry best practices and environmental regulations.
