As our fuels tax accounting technician, you will complete administrative tasks including answering phones, responding to emails, reviewing and approving license applications, performing bond reviews, completing refund audits and desk reviews, detailing adjustments, calculating additional changes or credits and preparing audit reports. In this role, you will work closely with other accounting staff to determine the allocation of funds and apply Oregon fuels tax laws. Minimum Qualifications
Two years of experience calculating, recording, and maintaining accounting information that must include coding transactions and checking them for propriety, balancing, and resolving discrepancies in computer edits;
OR
One year of experience calculating, recording, and maintaining accounting information that must include coding transactions and checking them for propriety, balancing, and resolving discrepancies in computer edits AND at least 43 quarter (29 semester) credit hours from an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school that includes 9 quarter (6 semester) credit hours in accounting. Credit hours must include introductory level accounting courses 1 and 2;
OR
At least 94 quarter (62 semester) credit hours or an associate degree from an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school that includes 12 quarter (8 semester) credit hours in accounting. Credit hours must include introductory level accounting courses 1 and 2 and may include any additional accounting courses with “accounting” in the title.
Note: Training or experience must include using a computer to enter, update, or retrieve information.

A Day In The Life
- Prepare and analyze fuels tax licensee files.
- Audit the reported tax against source documents and determine the accuracy of the gallons of fuel handled and taxes paid.
- Contact licensees to request additional information and to correct minor errors.
- Prepare adjustment schedules and calculate additional tax or credit due, late payment penalties and interest charges.
- Prepare an audit report summarizing findings and adjustments made to accounts.
- Review license applications for accuracy and completeness and verify information with other agencies.
- Enter records into the fuels tax system and provide supporting documents.
- Process license cancellations and verify that all requirements have been communicated and met.
- Work is performed in a typical office environment and requires filing documents in cabinets up to 5 feet high and lifting up to 10 pounds.
