What are the responsibilities and job description for the Costume Project Manager position at Oregon Shakespeare Festival?

Position Overview:

The Costume Project Manager leads and oversees project teams in the Costume Department.

Pay rate: $33.71/h

This is a seasonal position with start date of 1/1/24 and end date of 6/29/24.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Manages a costume project team, including but not limited to:
    1. Comprehend Costume Designer’s vision; informed by script updates and rehearsal reports.
    2. Lead show meetings, organizes, coordinates, and distribute all project specific information and materials.
    3. Ensure costume staff adhere to the company handbook, collective bargaining agreement, production department guides, and safety procedures.
    4. Research, purchase, receive, and return project fabric, materials, and goods.
    5. Meet fitting request deadlines working with multiple scheduling stakeholders.
    6. Contribute to staff performance evaluations, advancement, and disciplinary conversations.
  2. Exemplify respect and inclusion by:
    1. Demonstrating and creating an environment where each employee is supported.
    2. Maintaining a safe and anti-racist working environment.
    3. Recognizing micro-aggressions and interrupting othering behaviors.
    4. Operationalizing IDEA concepts into organized practice in systems, processes, and problem-solving techniques.
    5. Collaborating with other managers to enforce safety policies and keeping up to date with required safety training.
  3. Collaborates and communicates with production stakeholders, including but not limited to:
    1. Wig Builders and Stylists: regarding specific hair and make-up design.
    2. Wardrobe and Hair crew: regarding costume maintenance, purchase source list, dressing lists.
    3. Stage Management: regarding costume fittings; rehearsal costumes; new developments; modifications to costumes for props, mics, lights.
    4. Props, Lights, Sound: regarding coordination of various elements in a costume.
  4. Maintains fiscal responsibility meeting deadlines by tracking expenses and credit card transactions.
  5. Attends all company and department meetings, required trainings, technical and dress rehearsals.

 

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Research and document source lists and updating return policies with vendors.
  2. Collaborates with Costume Supervisor to maintain the organization of costume shop spaces.
  3. Assists in Costume Rentals by: Pulling, restocking, dry-cleaning costumes as needed.
  4. Picks up and delivers supplies between Ashland and Talent as needed.
  5. Supports Marketing, Engagement, and Development efforts.
  6. Engages with OSF patrons.
  7. Other Duties as assigned by the Costume Director

Qualifications & Skills:

 

REQUIRED:

Education:  High School Graduate or equivalent.

 

Work Experience: Five years of experience in professional theater or performing arts, including two years of supervisory experience.

 

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of costume periods, safe work practices, and understanding repertory calendars.
  • Thorough knowledge using computer software, including Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, SharePoint, and other cloud-based information sharing systems.
  • Demonstrate initiative and tenacity in short-term and long-term planning.
  • Ability to collaborate and behave in a productive manner with colleagues and staff.
  • Ability to adapt and flex to operational changes and new procedures.
  • Expertise in organization, time management, and decision making.

Physical Ability: Lift and move costumes and equipment weighing up to 30 pounds, climb stairs occasionally, kneel, squat, and bend. it or stand for eight hours or more in a day.

 

Special Hours Requirements: Must be able to pass a background check. Availability to work evenings and weekends, as needed. Attend technical and dress rehearsals.
