Youth Corrections Unit Coordinator - Skill Development Coordinator
GRANTS PASS – ROGUE VALLEY YOUTH CORRECTIONAL FACILITY
Rogue Valley Youth Correctional Facility (RVYCF) is currently hiring a permanent, full-time Skill Development Coordinator (SDC) to provide proactive intervention and response to behaviorally challenging youth and/or youth requiring conflict resolution by applying and modeling Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS), Trauma Informed Care (TIC), and Positive Human Development (PHD) approaches. This position will work with facility administration to enhance services to youth with the express intent to engage and treat challenging youth in their ideal placement without movement to a behavior management unit.
Your Role as SDC
  • Consult with living unit multidisciplinary teams to determine need, level of support and interventions required to maintain challenging/aggressive youth on the living unit.
  • Provide support, skill building opportunities, and Trauma Informed Care approaches.
  • Work to promote program engagement and prevent behavioral destabilization; collaborate with staff to reintegrate the youth into the daily activities.
  • Monitor and assist with case management and/or intervention for youth identified as having active conflicts with other youth on campus, including youth with Sensitive Case Descriptors.
  • Work with and coach staff in reference to youth interventions and responses to more challenging behaviors.
  • Communicate special programming considerations for youth, to staff and assist in the development of comprehensive responses
  • Collaborate with the QMHPs to determine treatment and programming focus for skill building and youth competency areas.
  • Assess and score youth competency areas and consult with QMHP on treatment and programming areas of Case Plan.

What We Are Looking For:
  • A Bachelor's degree in a behavioral science or related field (submit a copy of your college transcript with your application if your education or degree is other than behavioral science); OR
  • Three years of experience observing, evaluating and recording behavior and maintaining discipline of individuals in a program related to juvenile justice, treatment programs, or special education within an institution or residential living unit; OR
  • Associate degree from an accredited school in a behavioral science or equivalent training program with an emphasis on juvenile systems, special education, and/or secondary education AND one year experience working in a juvenile justice, treatment, or secondary education program.
Desired Attributes: We may show preference to candidates whose application materials demonstrate the following:
  • Working knowledge and experience providing proactive interventions and responding to behaviorally challenging youth and/or youth requiring conflict resolution.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills assessed in the application materials and time of interview.
  • Experience developing, teaching and coaching life skills for youth and staff.
  • Experience in working in acute behavioral settings providing services to youth with significant behavioral issues and/or mental health needs.
  • Experience providing techniques for learning, skill building,and adapting to the personal and cultural patterns of OYA youth and staff.
