Job Title: Machine Operator/Production Associate III – Door Shop

Pay & FSLA Status: Competitive Compensation, D.O.E.; Hourly non-exempt

Regular Schedule & Shift: Monday - Friday; Day shift

Regular Weekly Hours: Full-time/40 hours per week (overtime as needed)

Paid Time Off (PTO): 80 hours accrued year 1; 120 hours accrued annually after year 1

POSITION SUMMARY:

Our level III Production Associates work within our door shop without supervision, operating specialized EuGenie, Full House, KVAL, and Norfield machinery to fabricate products in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) for the provided order paperwork and established quality expectations. This position is fully proficient in door shop Production Associate I & II duties, and will occasionally work saws, routers, pneumatic tools, and other small hand tools, power equipment, and specialized production machinery to create and customize doors and components based on pre-established protocols and customer orders. This is a labor-intensive position that requires lifting and maneuvering heavy door panels and units. Individuals are regularly on their feet throughout the day. Safety is a priority.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Read and understand door work orders sent to the door shop for building. Stay up-to-date and knowledgeable about door terminology and various components to ensure accuracy and quality expectations are met.
  • Operate CNC and automated door shop equipment (such as the KVAL 990, Fullhouse 484 CNC, Norfield Eagle, and Eugenie equipment) to machine and fabricate doors and door frames in accordance with SOP’s for provided order paperwork and established quality expectations.
  • Responsible for cleaning and operating CNC machines following company specifications. Partner with the branch Maintenance Technician or the corporate Senior Maintenance Manager to communicate and troubleshoot any issues and complete routine maintenance and inspections of equipment.
  • Review order paperwork before beginning production to ensure accuracy of finished products. Review all products and orders before, during, and after production to ensure that quality standards are met before transferring products to the next stage of production and before packaging products for transportation. Utilize tablets and software for documentation.
  • Palletize, package and wrap, and stage doors in preparation for shipment to customers. Understand that product packaging must be done per specifications to prevent damage during transportation.
  • May be required to complete minor to intermediate assembly and preparation of prefabricated doors and components utilizing saws, routers, pneumatic tools, and other small hand tools, power equipment, and specialized production machinery. Based on the line, tasks may include (but are not limited to) the following:
    • Cutting down heads and jambs, striking jambs, installing hinges, installing lites, cutting sills, applying weatherstripping, and nailing.
    • Completing tasks in accordance with SOP’s for the provided order paperwork and established quality expectations.
    • Being trained in and capable of operating specialized door shop equipment and machinery (such as the KVAL 700C, Fullhouse Assembler, Norfield 540 Assembler, Mag Operator, Norfield 3800, Norfield 4800, or KVAL 700DC).
    • Safely operating the bander, tilt table, and tiger stop saw to complete various assembly and prep tasks.
  • Work to maintain a safe and clean environment while achieving department productivity goals. Understand and follow OrePac safety rules and regulations.
  • Work with team and door shop leadership to analyze and resolve challenges, develop and implement improvements, and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Forklift duties may be assigned to this position to manipulate and move products. Any assigned forklift duties will first require taking and passing a forklift training course and obtaining a certificate. Forklift duties will include staging and/or stacking material neatly and safely, operating the forklift in a safe manner, filling the forklift with propane fuel, and regularly checking the forklift fluid levels.


REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English as it relates to the job and to the safety regulations.
  • Ability to adhere to all facets of safety policies and procedures, including wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as designated by OrePac’s safety program. Ability to perform all essential responsibilities of the job in a safe manner.
  • Ability to compute basic math problems to include addition, subtraction, and multiplication.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and the ability to follow established quality standards.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Mechanical aptitude. Experience with hand tools, power tools, and the ability to read a tape measure.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment within a team or individually with minimal to no supervision while achieving quality and timely completion of assigned tasks to achieve customer satisfaction.
  • Must have knowledge of the accurate and safe use of automatic door shop equipment (such as the Norfield Magnum, Ruvo, or Kval door assemblers) and various routers and saws.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Proficiency as a door shop Production Associate I & II.
  • 1-2 years of experience with CNC machine operation (preferred, but not required) or experience building custom door units.
  • 2 or more years of experience using mills, saws, joiners, nail guns, or other carpentry tools (preferred, but not required).
  • Any combination of education, training, or experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position will be accepted in place of the education and/or experience requirements listed for this role.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Regularly required to see, talk, and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, the ability to adjust focus, and peripheral vision.
  • Regularly use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Regularly reach with hands and arms.
  • Regularly lift/move/manipulate up to 60 pounds and occasionally required to team lift/move/manipulate up to 100 pounds.
  • Regularly required to stand and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Regularly steer, reach, and handle various materials or equipment if forklift operation duties are assigned to the position.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate/loud.
  • The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts.
  • The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions.
