The Primary Project To Be Completed By The Intern Will Be Challenging The Standards Used To Test Our Products In An Effort To Improve Consistency, Reliability, And Usability. The Primary Project To Be Completed By The Intern Will Be Challenging The Standards Used To Test Our Products In An Effort To Improve Consistency, Reliability, And Usability. This Project Will Improve The Long-term Understanding Of Our Products And Allow Us To Understand The Best Practices To Use In Product Testing. In This Project, He/she Will Do The Following:
- Determine the current state of product testing in the mechanical test laboratory.
- Develop an experiment to challenge the test standard(s) to gain a better understanding of spinal implants.
- Perform a series of testing to get hands on experience.
- Properly document performed testing.
- Develop test fixture and process improvements to increase consistency and reliability of testing.
The following are the essential functions of this position. This position may be responsible for performing additional duties and tasks as needed and assigned.
- Review of previous research due June 28, 2024.
- Test protocol for testing due July 8, 2024.
- Completion of all testing by July 26, 2024.
- Initial draft of test report to document testing due August 2, 2024.
- Presentation of research to journal club on August 14, 2024.
- Final test report to document testing due August 16, 2024.
- Final CAD drawings/recommendations for improvement due August 23,2024.
- Final BMES abstract due August 30, 2024.
The requirements listed below are representative of the education, knowledge, skill and/or ability required for this position.
Education/Certifications:
- HS Diploma or equivalent required
- Enrollment in bachelor’s or master’s degree program
- Junior or Senior level standing, or graduate student
- 3.0 GPA
- Biomedical or Mechanical Engineering Major
- CAD modeling experience
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) experience
The education, knowledge, skills and/or abilities listed below are preferred qualifications in addition to the minimum qualifications stated above.
Education/Certifications:
- Biomedical or Mechanical Engineering Major from an ABET accredited program.
- CAD modeling experience with Creo
- Matlab experience
- Familiarity with ASTM or ISO standards
