We are seeking a motivated Clinical Nurse Manager to support the Director of Ambulatory Surgery in overseeing daily operations across Pre-op, PACU, OR, PAT, and Sterile Processing. Position Summary
The Clinical Nurse Manager supervises daily clinical operations of the Surgery Center including PATs, Pre-op, PACU, OR and Sterile Processing in accordance with established Federal, State and accreditation regulations and guidelines, as well as established Surgery Center policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Oversee patient care activities in preoperative, postoperative and intraoperative;
- Prepare the daily surgical schedule and coordinate staff breaks and lunches;
- Monitor case progress and times, respond to issues to minimize delays, and maintain smooth case flow.
- Monitor that necessary staff, equipment, and supplies are available;
- Update and maintain surgeon preference cards;
- Supervise inventory and supplies, controlled drugs, and equipment as it relates to clinical operations;
- Coordinate with medical staff and management team to utilize resources considering patient care, patient census, patient acuity, allocation of resources, and unit environment;
- Coordinate, facilitate, and manage change within clinical operations;
- Conduct clinical orientations;
- Provide direction and guidance for staff members concerning individual competencies;
- Takes patient assignments when necessary.
- Assist with preoperative, postoperative and intraoperative staff in the evaluation of current practice through quality and performance improvement activities;
- Assist with staff development and performance management (payroll, coaching, corrective action and performance appraisals);
- Assist with management of physician block time including evaluating utilization and making recommendations for changes to increase the efficiency of the Center;
- Assist with provider credentialing, infection control and quality improvement activities as requested/needed;
- Ensure accuracy of medical records;
- Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.
- Other responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications
- Current unrestricted NYS RN License required;
- Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) required or currently enrolled and active in a BSN program for 1 year with a date of completion within 1 year of hire; master's degree preferred;
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS required;
- Minimum five (5) years clinical experience as a RN; preferably some or all clinical experience in an ambulatory surgery center, or surgical service department with outpatient cases;
- Minimum two (2) years supervisory and/or management experience;
- Ability to organize, prioritize, analyze, anticipate, interpret, evaluate and problem solve to provide a safe, effective and functional environment.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
Other Information
- Position will require more than 40 hours per week occasionally based on case volume, staff coverage and supervision, as well as projects or initiatives that take place throughout the year.
- Ability and willingness to travel to other OrthoNY surgical center locations on occasion for meetings or to assist with staffing needs/coverage.
- Reliable transportation is essential.
