ORTHOPEADIC MEDICAL GROUP OF TAMPA BAY is currently seeking applications for the full-time position of Certified Athletic Trainer with combined coverage at the OMG Office/Physical Therapy Clinic and with secondary school coverage at Jesuit High School in Tampa, Florida.

  • Assists in carrying out predetermined patient-related activities in the physical therapy setting under the direct supervision of the Physical Therapist or the Physical Therapy Assistant.
  • Assists in carrying out predetermined patient-related activities in the physician office setting under the direct supervision of the physician.
  • Administers preventive and rehabilitative treatment to students and athletes involved in various sports and physical education activities in accordance with instruction from the Head Athletic Trainer.
  • The duties of the Athletic Trainer include, but are not limited to, the prevention of athletic injuries, recognition, evaluation, and the immediate care of athletic injuries.
  • The Athletic Trainer shall serve as a liaison of physical health support to and between athletes, coaches of the athletes, Athletic Director, physicians, and parents.
  • The Athletic Trainer shall enact and use reasonable efforts and professionalism to ensure that players participate in athletic activities and events only when physically able and that any instructions provided by their attending physician are understood and followed. Safety and health of the athlete comes first.
  • The Athletic Trainers will coordinate with the Athletic Director to provide athletic training services at athletic events and practices deemed necessary by the principal or their designee.

Minimum Qualifications:

The following minimum qualifications for this position must be met before any applicant is considered:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in athletic training or sports medicine (Master’s preferred).
  • Prefer a minimum of 2 years experience as an Athletic Trainer at the collegiate level.
  • Must possess NATA Board certification that is current. Must be eligible for Florida State Licensure.
  • Must possess First Aid and CPR and AED for the professional rescuer certification that is current.
  • Valid Florida Motor Vehicle Operator’s license required.
  • This position will require successful fingerprinting and drug screening.

Orthopaedic Medical Group of Tampa Bay is looking for highly motivated healthcare professionals that demonstrate an outstanding work ethic and ability to work as part of a team.

They shall have good communication skills with both healthcare professionals as well as patients and family members.

Requirements:

MUST be BOC Certified and eligible for State of FL licensure.

Valid Driver’s License and Reliable Vehicle – Will be required to travel to different clinic locations

Preference will be given to those candidates who:

  • Demonstrate superior history taking and physical exam skills.
  • Can work in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
  • Have a strong desire to grow and learn.

Essential Functions

  • Demonstrates the ability to appropriately treat athletes according to professional standards of practice.
  • Interpersonal communication skills include the ability to coordinate patient care with other team members and educate patients and their families.
  • Independently makes decisions that will affect the health and quality of life of athletes.
  • Advise athletes on the proper use of equipment.
  • Assess and report the progress of recovering athletes to coaches and physicians.
  • Provide basic First Aid supplies to control bleeding, perform CPR, and provide basic splinting for fracture/dislocation immobilization to injured athletes.
  • Attends team practices and games, as deemed necessary.
  • Follow physicians’ orders to implement comprehensive rehabilitation program(s) for athletic injuries.
  • Consult with coaches on athletic injury prevention, basic first aid, and follow-up injury treatment and rehabilitation.
  • Maintains a cheerful atmosphere in which to treat.
  • Demonstrates caring, honesty, and open communication with all and encourages a smart and professional appearance in self and in others.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Combination sporting facilities and clinical setting. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, biohazards, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a sporting setting.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk, or hear. Daily job-related interactions will require the employee to push, pull, bend or squat. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk for extensive periods of time; use hands to manipulate, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing 5 to 30 lbs. or more. May assist patients as needed, helping them on and off the treatment table, or pushing wheelchairs. Ability to work a flexible schedule. Stress can be triggered by workload and complex cases. Occasional stress caused by multitasking, level of responsibility, and workload.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK: This is a full-time, exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday with weekend availability for sporting event coverage. Occasional overtime may be required and/or hours may be shortened as business needs dictate.
