What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Adventure Program Staff - Part time position at Oshkosh Community YMCA?
Our Youth Adventure Program provides opportunities for kids to develop independence and gain new skills! Each day will be filled with new adventures, exploring the community, and making connections with others. Activities will include: in-town mini trips (frequently on bikes and public transportation as a group), giving back to the community through various projects, archery, swimming at local pools, fishing trips, games, arts and crafts, team building, field trips, and more. Workdays: Hours vary Monday – Friday between 6:30AM-6PM; program operates June 9-August 29, 2025. Staff training May 30 and June 2-6, 2025. Staff must be available to work all 13 weeks of the program and be in attendance for all training dates. (Time off for vacations may be granted)
Hours per Week: Part Time (up to 30 hours per week)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Engage and supervise youth in a fun, positive, and safe environment.
- Responsible for day-to-day operations of the program, participants, and activities.
- Provide excellent customer service by greeting, acknowledging, and building relationships with all youth.
- Upholding safety standards on-site and on field trips.
- Maintain and monitor the integrity of YMCA equipment and areas.
- Serve as the on-site leader & first responder during program emergencies.
- Set up/clean-up program areas & equipment for program offerings.
- Creates accurate records and reports in a timely, neat, and professional manner.
- Communicate clearly with members, guests, & other YMCA staff both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrates and upholds the values and philosophy of the YMCA in actions and attitude.
- Effectively manage discipline problems with participants in accordance with YMCA policy.
- Open and securely close program areas as directed.
- Attend meetings & in-service trainings as scheduled.
- Assist with the cleanliness of the youth lounge.
- Must be 17 years of age or older.
- Be creative, enthusiastic, self-motivated, and outgoing with ability to think independently.
- Child Abuse Prevention Training (within 30 days of employment).
- Bloodborne Pathogens Training (within 30 days of employment).
- CPR/First Aid/AED Training (within 30 days of employment).
- Knowledge of emergency response procedures and techniques.
- Knowledge of relationship building, and problem-solving techniques & methods.
- Ability to function independently.
- Ability to lift 75lbs.
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for prolonged periods of time.
- Ability to ride a bike up to 5 miles at a leisurely pace.
