What are the responsibilities and job description for the Non-profit Land Trust • Land Manager position at Oswit Land Trust?
Oswit Land Trust is Coachella Valley-based, non-profit land trust that saves wildlife habitat through purchasing land at high risk for development. Currently, the organization owns six properties, with another six in negotiation. Looking for a person with some experience as indicated in job responsibilities and required experience. We are not considering candidates with no related experience. This is grant-funded position, with two years remaining on grant. Part of the position is to develop funding sources for continuation of position. The organization is small (less than 10 employees and has existed for less than five years).
Land Manager Job Responsibilities:
- Coordinating with the OLT acquisition team and state agencies, identify potential acquisitions in the Coachella Valley by working with willing sellers, negotiating acquisitions and conservation easements, and assisting with real estate closing transactions
- Write and acquire grants to purchase land, land restoration projects, invasive plant mitigation projects, and capacity building
- Attend meetings, coordinate, and assist state and local agencies and other non-profits to manage conservation lands and oversee management and monitoring activities
- Write and submit quarterly and annual reports for each property as required by funders
- Visit each exiting Oswit Land Trust property in the Coachella Valley on a regular basis to report to OLT Board and staff observations and concerns
- Map, inventory, and report on flora and fauna of Oswit Land Trust properties as needed
- Assist other OLT staff to ensure property supervision, which may include volunteer programs and coordination
- Assist with outreach and involvement of underserved communities and tribal communities
- Assist other OLT staff to implement land restoration, reestablishing native species, invasive plant species management, public access planning, signage, and mitigating human impacts
- This position primarily works at home, with significant time in the field, at OLT properties, and at off-site meetings
Required Experience/Skills
- Preferred B.A. or B.S. or equivalent experience in Restoration Ecology, Environmental Science, Environmental Planning, Earth System Science, Biology, or other applicable environmental field with strong ecological background
- Grant writing experience is strongly preferred
- Background or desire to learn how to map, inventory, and care for our natural assets
- ArcGIS experience helpful
- Fierce interest in the protection of nature and wildlife
- Strong administrative, technological, and interpersonal skills
- Willing to work some hours per week outside in the desert environment
- Willing to assist in the supervision and maintenance of OLT properties
- Some use of landscape and trail building tools, some lifting required * Able to work some weekends
- Use of own car to travel to properties
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
