Job Title – Crisis Intervention Specialist

What is TOOF?
The Other Ones Foundation (TOOF) is a nonprofit that offers extremely low-barrier work opportunities, case management, and humanitarian aid to people experiencing homelessness. TOOF offers several homeless services related programs which include the Workforce First (WFF) program, the Mobile Hygiene Clinic, Going Home, and the service coordinator for the Esperanza Community.

Job Summary
The Crisis Intervention Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of our clients, staff, and community. This position works closely with shelter staff to address the complex needs of clients enrolled in TOOF services. Crisis Intervention Specialists will engage community members in sharing lived experience, advocacy, and supporting work around homelessness, reentry, substance use/harm reduction practices, and mental health. Services will be provided based on traditional community-policing principles utilizing person centered, strengths-based, trauma informed, and a harm-reduction perspective.
Responsibilities
• Conduct regular tours of the community using TrackTik system to ensure safety and wellbeing of clients and respond promptly to any safety or security concerns.
• Monitor access to TOOF sites, verify the identity of visitors, and maintain entry protocols to create a safe and welcoming environment for residents, visitors, and staff.
• Maintain knowledge of program priorities and consult and communicate with the Director or the Program Manager of Safety and Security on relevant issues.
• Monitoring of security cameras and deployment of emergency preparedness equipment.
• Collaborate with emergency services to address security incidents, medical emergencies, or other crises as needed.
• Engage with clients enrolled in TOOF services in a respectful and compassionate manner, providing information, guidance, and support as needed.
• Deliver immediate support and intervention during crises to assist individuals in recovering and preventing serious long-term problems from developing. This involves discussing the event, exploring feelings, and developing coping strategies and problem-solving skills.
• Engage with clients who may be in active substance use including alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs using a harm reduction perspective.
• Respond to conflicts or disputes among residents with de-escalation techniques, mediation, and conflict resolution strategies.
• Provide crisis intervention and support to residents experiencing distress, mental health crises, or substance use crises or challenges, and coordinate with appropriate resources for further assistance.
• Document incidents, observations, and interventions accurately and thoroughly, maintaining confidentiality and adhering to legal and ethical standards.
• Work closely with other departments and TOOF staff to help facilitate policy and processes across different TOOF sites.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a security and/or clinical setting.
• Experience working with individuals who are homeless and/or at risk of homelessness.
• High professional standards and dedication to the organization’s mission, vision & values.
• Ability to function as a reliable team-member and ability to problem solve.
• Ability to work collaboratively with co-workers and external partners. Apt in problem-solving, and motivating others.
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries, engagement skills, de-escalation and conflict mediation with a challenging population.
• Ability to deliver culturally responsive services to a diverse population.
• Ability to multi-task and complete assignments that sometimes occur in a stressful environment.
• Ability to driver Motor Vehicles.
• Proficient in Harm Reduction principles and practices
• Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Competent technology skills, including experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Google Suite, etc).
• Weightlifting requirement of 35lbs

Schedule
● Multiple Locations Possible in the Austin, Texas area based on the needs of the organization.
● 2nd Shift 3PM-11PM
● Shifts may include weekends and holidays. There is a 10% differential pay for weekends and hours between 7PM- 7AM. We also offer a bonus structure for employees working on holidays.
