SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT SPECIALIST - ESPERANZA

JOB SUMMARY

The Workforce First program is a radically low-barrier, short term work opportunity designed to address the immediate income needs of our participants, while simultaneously providing employment-focused case management, life skills support, and job-readiness training. Operating under the direct supervision of the Supported Employment Team Lead, the Supported Employment Specialist’s primary responsibility is overseeing the work projects of individuals participating in the Workforce First program. As such, this position requires individuals to be comfortable working outside, doing manual labor, operating company vehicles, and providing support and practical job coaching to groups of people actively experiencing homelessness. 
Patience, compassion, and lived experience with homelessness, or experience working with this population will be important for this work. 



RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborating with Workforce First staff to ensure adequate oversight of all on-site resident work opportunities.
  • Providing support and practical job coaching to Workforce First participants daily, with the goal of broadening crew member skill sets and preparing participants to pursue opportunities for future independent employment. 
  • Assessing clients’ vocational performance on an ongoing basis, utilizing provided assessment tools in accordance with organizational standards.
  • Collaborating with Esperanza Case Management staff to support client engagement efforts to maximize successful outcomes for WFF participants. 
  • Communicating program needs and/or submitting work orders to fleet and facilities as it pertains to the scope of resident work opportunities or workforce first operations.
  • Maintaining a safe and efficient work site by providing necessary work equipment and ensuring all distributed supplies are accounted for and stored correctly at the end of each shift.  
  • Providing engaged, client-centered supervision of crews which integrates organizational training standards into daily field operations. 
  • Submitting requisite documentation into Apricot, Tracktik (Incident Reports), and Microsoft365 in a timely manner and in accordance with organizational standards.
  • Attending all appropriate program and all-staff meetings sufficiently prepared to consecutively engage with colleagues. 
  • Completing all assigned trainings in a timely manner and integrating training standards into daily operations.
  • Attending weekly Case Management/Supported Employment Specialist collaboration meeting prepared to contribute relevant insights, updates, or concerns with a focus on solution-oriented outcomes.
  • Provides effective service delivery by utilizing person centered, strengths-based, trauma informed, and harm-reduction perspectives. 
  • Collaborates with SES team to ensure accuracy of client sign-in, sign-out, and break reporting.
  • Proactively carries out client engagement, interview, and assessment efforts for clients interested in pursuing advanced workforce development opportunities. 
  • Ensures effective communication between the SES team and workforce first participants by providing relevant feedback promptly and constructively.


REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to promote a culture that encourages low barrier access to case management services and employment opportunities.
  • Excellent communication skills. Communication is respectful, solution-focused, and collaborative.
  • Well-organized and apt at problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated alignment with the Other Ones Foundation’s philosophy, mission, & vision.
  • Ability to effectively analyze key outputs, performance indicators, and other relevant data points in service of maintaining accountability to contractual obligations and program goals.
  • Must demonstrate or have the desire to gain a high level of intercultural competence, an understanding of the diverse identities and cultures of people experiencing homelessness, and in developing and supporting inclusive communities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

The Other Ones Foundation offers essential services to people experiencing homelessness. Work is generally performed in an outdoor environment. In accordance with CDC guidelines, TOOF continues to provide covid-specific leave.


HOURS
  • Full-time, non-exempt
  • 40 hours a week
  • Current structure is (4) 10hr shifts/week. Schedule is subject to change based on operational needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Valid class-C driver’s license
  • Authorized to work in the United States
  • Skilled in compassionate and authentic communication  
  • Able to work collaboratively with a team and foster a healthy work culture.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school or equivalent
  • Experience driving passenger vans and/or trailers
  • Bilingual
  • Experience working in social or vocational services
  • Experience working with individuals that are experiencing homelessness.
  • Familiarity of the nuanced sub-culture shared by people experiencing homelessness.
