What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Marine Patrol position at Otsego County?
Under the direction of the Sheriff, performs marine law enforcement work on and around local waterways; insuring the protection of citizens of and visitors to Otsego County.
- Conduct watercraft safety equipment inspections.
3. Investigate all watercraft accidents.
4. Maintain all marine equipment.
5. Assist the Underwater Dive Team in recovery of bodies.
6. Attend all meetings, when requested, to inform the general public on Marine Laws.
7. Assist in training of students for their Boating Safety Safety Certificate.
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the above tasks. (These examples do not include all of the tasks which the employees may be expected to perform.)
Employment Qualifications
Education: Graduation from High School, or GED equivalent required. Completion of two (2) years of college coursework in criminal justice is preferred.
Experience: Previous police experience that would provide the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the responsibilities listed above. M.C.O.L.E.S. Basic Training and M.C.O.L.E.S. certified or certifiable preferred.
Other Requirements:
- Must possess a valid Michigan operator or chauffeur license.
- United States citizen.
- Resident of the State of Michigan for one (1) year prior to employment.
- Must not have been convicted of a felony or crime that might question credibility as a Peace Officer.
- Must successfully complete the employment-screening process, which may include written, oral, psychological and physical screening, along with complete background investigations.
- Must be mentally and emotionally stable, suited for police duties.
- Must be in good health, adequate to perform police duties, free from chronic disease, free from any physical deformities.
- Must pass a physical examination by a medical or osteopathic physician.
- Height and weight must be in proportion.
- Must have at least 20-50 vision in each eye, corrected to 20-20, and be free from color blindness.
- Must have normal hearing.
- Must pass extensive background investigation.
