Job Description
Ottawa Area ISD seeks a qualified and certified individual to work as a Pool Activities Coordinator within a center-based special education facility. The successful candidate will possess Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid certification.
The ideal candidate will maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas and will create a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes student safety and engagement in accordance with Ottawa Area Center policies and procedures.
The candidate will provide hands-on instructional leadership in the water and active surveillance of the pool area. They will be responsible for leading and directing staff within the pool and surrounding area to support student needs. The candidate will know/review all pool-related and student health emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately in accordance with their training and school/district policies and procedures.
The candidate will know, understand, and consistently apply safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool area. They will attend professional development and training as required. May collaborate with Adaptive PE Teacher to support students as needed. Must be willing to complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Red Cross Lifeguard certification or equivalent from an accepted and certifying body required. CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification required. CPR/First Aid Certification required. Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness. Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with industry standards. Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students with significant special needs required. Must possess leadership and critical thinking skills Experience working with individuals with special needs is preferred.
Schedule:
7.0 hours per day 190 days per year - balanced school calendar (year round with intermittent pre-scheduled breaks).
Compensation:
$26 per hour 30-35 hours per week Includes benefits package.
