Duties
- Operate commercial vehicles, including tractor-trailers, vans, and tankers, to transport freight and heavy equipment.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure safety and compliance with regulations.
- Plan routes effectively to optimize delivery times while considering traffic patterns and road conditions.
- Load and unload cargo as necessary, ensuring proper handling of all materials.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, including logs of mileage, fuel consumption, and delivery confirmations.
- Communicate with dispatchers regarding any delays or issues encountered during transportation.
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations governing commercial vehicle operation.
Skills
- Proven experience as a delivery driver or in a similar role involving commercial vehicle operation.
- Strong knowledge of safe driving practices and traffic laws.
- Ability to operate various types of vehicles including heavy haul trucks and yard jockeys.
- Excellent navigation skills with familiarity of local roadways.
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with team members and customers.
- Ability to handle physical demands such as lifting heavy loads and performing manual tasks related to loading/unloading freight.
- A valid commercial driver's license (CDL) is required for this position.
