The OU Executive Fellowship is a 10-month professional development program for a selective cohort of post-college Jewish adults eager to explore and invest in initiatives that service the Jewish community – locally and globally.
The Fellowship experience is full-time, paid, and blends OU department-specific work with cohort-based, hands-on learning opportunities beyond the walls of of an office.
Who We Are:
The OU Advocacy Center is the nonpartisan public policy arm of the nation’s largest Orthodox Jewish organization‚ representing nearly 1,000 congregations nationwide, and leads the OU’s advocacy efforts in Washington, DC. OU Advocacy engages leaders in Congress, The White House and Judiciary as well as the broader public to promote and protect the Orthodox Jewish community’s interests and values in the public policy arena.
Position Summary:
The OUA Fellowship is an intensive 10 month position for dedicated early career professionals working with OU Advocacy professional staff as we advocate in Washington, DC for Jewish values and interests in the public policy arena on behalf of the Orthodox Jewish community. He/she will take part in a wide range of activities, including monitoring legislative activity, working with synagogues and day schools, coordinating special events, creating educational materials, and mobilizing the grassroots of American Orthodox Jewry. Please note that this position requires the hired candidate to live in the Greater Washingon Area and is not open to be fully remote.
Previous Fellows have continued on to obtain significant positions in politics, communications and Jewish communal life.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Legislative Advocacy – An OUA Fellow will have responsibility for monitoring legislation, attending and reporting on hearings; representing the Orthodox Union on Capitol Hill and in coalitions and more.
- Research – The backbone of effective advocacy work is quality research. The OUA Fellow will research and write advocacy memos on critical issues.
- Events – OU Advocacy has produced and sponsored public conferences on a range of issues examining the interface of Halakha and public policy; OU Advocacy also holds missions to Washington where community leaders meet policymakers. The OUA Fellow will play a lead role in executing these events.
- Communications – OU Advocacy is in the communications business; our policy positions must be heard in the public square, our views must be integrated into policymakers’ thinking, and our programs must be attended. The Fellow will have a role in ensuring OU Advocacy’s public messaging reaches our target audiences via social media and other channels.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of American politics through college coursework.
- Some experience in advocacy through volunteer roles is a plus.
Salary and Benefits
The salary for this position is $40,000.
