Position Title: APP - Advanced Practice Provider - Inpatient Adult Palliative Care Department: Advance Practice Providers Job Description: Under direction of a physician, provides primary care to patients with medical conditions ranging from general to complex. The Adult Advanced Care Team at OU Health is an interdisciplinary team with expertise in adult palliative care that strives to relieve suffering and improve quality of life for adults with life-threatening or life-limiting illnesses. Essential Responsibilities: Responsibilities listed in this section are core to the position. Provides direct patient care services Performs medical acts as an advanced practice provider (APP) under the supervision of the supervisory physician to adult patients requiring care, coordination, symptom management or end of life care Assis in coordinating the activities of the interdisciplinary palliative care team Aid in the symptom management for hospitalized palliative and/or home/hospice patients using non-pharmacological techniques Facilitate family care conferences and serve as a liaison with other involved services Work with area hospice agencies to coordinate care and bereavement services Participate in the program's educational, research and advocacy activities as needed May prescribe or administer medications under physician direction and in accordance with Oklahoma State laws General Responsibilities: Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications: Education: Master’s Degree in specialized area Experience: Three (3) years’ experience in the clinical care of patients with complex medical problems facing end-of-life issues License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Current RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact RN License (eNLC) AND a credential to practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse with prescriptive authority in the State of Oklahoma. Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire. ACLS (American Heart Association) required with 1 year of hire. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of practices and procedures of nursing. Good patient assessment and communication skills. Knowledge of the principles and methods of clinic operation and management. Knowledge of proper route for administering medications and dosages levels. Knowledge of Oklahoma’s regulatory laws governing prescription drugs. Must be competent in the areas of pain and stress management as well as the management of other serious symptoms.
