Job Title: Director of Athletics – Full Time – 12 - Month Position (1.0 FTE)

Job Summary: The role of the Director of Athletics is to manage all facets of the athletic program, including scheduling, hiring coaches, promoting programs and events, ordering equipment, constructing budgets, and facilitating operations. The Director of Athletics will collaborate with the Principal to promote the growth in body, mind, and spirit of all student athletes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Schedules and facilitates all athletic contests, which may include recruiting and arranging medical, safety, and other support staff; coordinating use of athletic facilities; and completing and maintaining contracts and similar documentation
- Collaborates with the School Nurse on athletic eligibility, including physicals, parental permission, and required immunizations
- Coordinates with local media and Director of Marketing and Communications to ensure coverage of athletic events and recognition of athletes and coaches
- Recommends repairs for all equipment, fields, and facilities to the facilities manager
- Coordinates with maintenance to maintain athletic fields, prepare fields for competition, and maintain the gymnasium
- Oversees the annual inventory of uniforms, equipment, and other materials; orders equipment and uniforms when necessary
- Oversees and maintains athletic budget in coordination with the Principal and Vice President of Finance and Operations
- Maintains a student database of participation and accomplishments, including seasonal awards
- Evaluates coaches throughout their specific season
- Reviews and revises coaches’ handbook annually in coordination with the Principal and Director of Human Resources
- Represents Mercy in all athletic business within the league and Section V
- Maintains active membership for professional development in the Chapter 5 and NYS Athletic Administrators Association Revised 3.2025
- Enforces and interprets all athletic regulations as specified by NYSPHSAA
- Upholds the mission of Our Lady of Mercy School for Young Women
- Demonstrates the Mercy charisms and acts as a role model of world-class learning
- Promotes the Mercy values and Critical Concerns in our community
- Participates in Mercy traditions and celebrations
Required Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in physical education, sports management, or a related field
- Preferred - master's degree in business, sports management, or education administration
- At least five years of experience in teaching, educational administration, and/or coaching
- Current Athletic Coach certification
Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent managerial skills
- Ability to create, execute, and implement budgets
- Ability to plan and implement teaching and coaching assignments
- Willingness to work towards Certification in Athletic Administration (CAA)
In addition to key responsibilities, the Director of Athletics will perform other duties as assigned.
Pay Range:
- $70,000 - $80,000 a year (salary commensurate with experience). This is a full-time, exempt position.
