Job Summary:
The Product Development Engineer will design new products, improve existing products, and build prototypes for our Accessories, Bags, UTV and Snowmobile Cover division. The Engineer should be capable of developing products from concept to final production. The right candidate should be extremely hands-on and visually oriented with the ability to conceptualize and design complex 2-D and 3-D geometric shapes.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Drafts product designs according to customer, client, or company specifications using 2-D concept renderings and 3-D CAD drawings.
- Adapts existing product designs to meet new specifications and applications.
- Assists with construction of prototypes.
- Tests prototypes to verify product reliability; makes adjustments as required.
- Develop sewing patterns with corresponding product specification drawings/tech packs to ensure a complete, detailed, and accurate sample build.
- Assists the engineering department in resolving product issues or production difficulties.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent drafting skills including proficiency with manual and digital drawing, sketching, and design.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials selections, and product testing.
- Proficient with Adobe Illustrator, computer-aided design (CAD) software and/or similar illustration and design software.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial or Product Design or related field preferred.
- Three years of work experience as a production technician required.
- Able to learn new computer software programs quickly.
- Portfolio demonstrating ID drawings and modelmaking skills.
- Strong hand and digital drawing/sketching abilities.
- Familiar with plastic & foam molding processes (injection, vac-form, compression, extrusion).
- A general knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Team player with strong collaborative and relationship building skills.
- Applied Lean manufacturing knowledge.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
- Availability to travel as necessary.
- Experience riding various powersports vehicles (ATV, UTV, Snowmobile, PWC) a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
