As a Payroll & Benefits Specialist at Outrider, you’ll be responsible for managing payroll processing, benefits administration, and compliance to ensure a seamless employee experience. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while optimizing our benefits offerings to remain competitive and aligned with employee needs. This role requires strong attention to detail, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

This role is primarily based in an office setting with a professional and collaborative work environment. Employees will primarily work at a desk, using computers and other office equipment, with occasional visits to operational areas for team collaboration or project needs.

As a Payroll & Benefits Specialist at Outrider, you’ll be responsible for managing payroll processing, benefits administration, and compliance to ensure a seamless employee experience. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while optimizing our benefits offerings to remain competitive and aligned with employee needs. This role requires strong attention to detail, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Process biweekly payroll, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Manage payroll adjustments, including bonuses, deductions, benefits contributions, and tax withholdings.
- Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and wellness initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with labor laws, tax regulations, and company policies.
- Partner with Finance to reconcile payroll transactions and assist with audits.
- Maintain accurate payroll and benefits records, ensuring confidentiality and data integrity.
- Support annual benefits enrollment and lead communication efforts around benefits updates.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and employee experience.
- Maintain accurate employee records, handle HR documentation, and assist with benefits administration.
- Coordinate onboarding for new hires and off-boarding for departing employees, ensuring a smooth transition.
- Deliver on opportunities to streamline People Ops processes and contribute to the development of new initiatives.
- 3 years of payroll and benefits administration experience.
- Strong knowledge of payroll systems (BambooHR, ADP, Paylocity, or similar).
- Familiarity with benefits administration, including open enrollment processes.
- Understanding of federal and state payroll laws, including FLSA, FMLA, and ACA.
- Experience handling sensitive employee data with confidentiality and professionalism.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets for payroll reporting and reconciliation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in a high-growth tech or startup environment.
- Familiarity with autonomous vehicle or logistics industries.
- Knowledge of multi-state payroll processing.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or SHRM certification.
- Experience leading benefits program evaluation and vendor negotiations.
- Annual Salary: $57,000 - $78,000
- Equity: equity package commensurate on experience and skills
