Overland Group is currently developing and constructing assets across multiple types including multifamily, mixed-use, hospitality, retail, and medical office.
Overland Development, part of Overland Group, is currently developing ~$400 million worth of real estate with about half under construction and the other half in pre-construction. Development engages in site acquisition, due diligence, project management, capital structuring, real estate private equity, and asset management.
Overland Construction is a general contractor with significant construction experience in multiple asset classes with a presence in both Utah and Arizona. Overland Development and Overland Construction work together to ensure development projects are successful from start to finish.

Position Description
The Controller serves a critical role on the Overland team. Must have a desire to work in a fast-paced environment and be a main contributor to the success of Overland. The ideal candidate will be a leader at heart with the desire and ability to perform whatever functions are needed to ensure the success of Overland, regardless of titles or departments. This position must possess the ability to lead, manage, and hold individuals accountable to ensure company goals are met. Lastly, the Controller will be expected to champion Overland’s core values of integrity, grit, proactive, accountable, team-player, and innovative.
Responsibilities
Financial Management & Planning
- Manage and oversee the daily financial operations of the company.
- Develop and implement financial strategies to support Overland’s short-term and long-term goals.
- Oversee cash flow management to ensure Overland’s liquidity needs are met.
- Lead the effort in optimizing Overland’s profit across the different verticals (development, construction, and asset management) by minimizing expenses.
- Maintain banking relationships that help achieve Overland’s goals.
- Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Create and implement budgetary planning and cost management systems throughout the organization.
- Prepare and present financial forecasts and budgets to the leadership team.
- Ensure compliance with all loan covenants related to Overland and its projects.
Accounting and Reporting
- Responsible for all accounting functions including maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records.
- Establish and maintain effective accounting processes, including, but not limited to A/R, A/P, account reconciliations, asset and liability tracking.
- Maintain the general ledger for each company, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements.
- Prepare and present weekly KPIs to the leadership team.
- Work with outside CPAs to oversee the preparation and filing of tax returns and ensure timely payment of taxes.
- Coordinate and manage 3rd party relationships including, but not limited to, outside accounting firms, legal firms, tax advisors, and outside HR company.
Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and legal requirements.
- Ensure adequate insurance coverage for the company’s investments and assets.
- Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard the company’s assets and ensure the accuracy of financial records.
Team Leadership and Communication
- Serve as a key member of Overland’s leadership team, including providing input on key strategic issues and challenges facing the company
- Lead, manage, and mentor the accounting team by establishing clear expectations for individual and team performance and holding everyone accountable.
- Be a key contributor in helping Overland achieve its goal of building the best performing teams in the industry.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
- Promote collaboration and effective communication both within the accounting team and across the organization.
- Collaborate with other departments to support overall business objectives.
- Communicate financial performance, risks, and opportunities to the leadership team.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Strong project accounting experience with a background in real estate development or construction.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field; graduate degree preferred.
- CPA strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks.
- Possess a “can-do” attitude with the ability to focus through real estate market fluctuations.
- Unwavering ethical standards with the ability to handle highly confidential information with discretion.
- Strong track record of driving profitability and cash flow.
- Excellent understanding of financial and accounting principles.
