What are the responsibilities and job description for the Group Exercise Instructor position at Overlook Communities?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Wellness and Vitality, the Group Exercise Instructor is responsible for ensuring that members have a positive, healthy, and safe experience. The Group Exercise Instructor must be able to provide a high quality class with adherence to policies, protocols, purpose and excellent customer service.
POSITION DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
ü Report directly to the Director of Wellness and Vitality for approval of course curriculum, changes to class content and schedule.
ü Arrive ten minutes prior to class start time, have music, cued and ready, help members set up any equipment they may need for the class. Start and end class on time.
ü Maintain a professional appearance by wearing appropriate clothing and footwear. Encourage members to do the same.
ü Provide a friendly environment for the members by introducing yourself, learning members’ names, introducing members to each other.
ü Be a positive example to the members, encourage and coach members on proper techniques using positive reinforcement techniques.
ü Provide an open environment of on-going fitness education as part of the class curriculum.
ü Ensure quality control by providing a class that is consistent with the course description.
ü Return all equipment to their proper place and police the class area for litter or abandoned articles as soon as class ends. Report any and all issues with equipment, members or curriculum directly to the Director.
ü Record class attendance and where necessary monitor and maintain participation rosters.
ü When necessary, it is the instructors’ responsibility to find a replacement for your class if you are unable to teach. Immediately communicate the need to find a replacement with the Wellness Director and follow up with the information as to who the replacement will be.
ü Be knowledgeable about all other programs and offerings. Support the Overlook Mission.
ü Attend all regularly scheduled staff meetings.
ü Incorporate The Culture of Excellence.
ü Perform any other duties as requested by the Director or Executive Director.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
ü Current Group Exercise Instructor certification from a nationally recognized body either the YMCA of the USA or AFAA, ACE, ACSM, ISCA, NASM, NETA, NSCA, SilverSneakers.
ü Current CPR, AED and First Aid Certification or required to obtain certification within the first three months of employment.
ü Maintain required certifications for the duration of employment.
ü Has at least 6 months experience teaching classes
