What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technical Director position at Owen Jones and Partners?
The Technical Director at Owen Jones is the in-house expert on technology as it relates to our client's and project needs. This expertise includes writing code, creating websites, and owning the technology portion of projects. The Technical Director also has responsibility in supporting pitches, scoping, estimates, project approaches and other sales-related tasks, as needed. This role reports to the Executive Creative Director and is a member of Owen Jones Senior Leadership.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Day to day leadership and oversight of the developers who report to you. Management responsibilities include including regular 1 on 1’s, performance and salary reviews, career and professional growth, and conflict remediation/elevation.
- Oversee individual projects, guiding project developer team and making technical decisions along the way.
- Serve as the voice for both the development team and clients in how and why work gets done.
- Participate in project discovery — identifying technical requirements, researching solutions and creating documentation.
- Act as a liaison between the project/account team and the project developer team.
- Create efficient and effective processes for developing, testing, launching, and supporting our coding and application work.
- Stay up to date and current on emerging technologies and educate the Owen team on how, where, and why to apply them.
- Act as a point of contact for technical decisions and interaction with outside vendors (including hosting, IT/infrastructure, etc.)
- Work to resolve roadblocks encountered by the development team.
- Look at the bigger picture of “What are the root problems we are trying to solve?”, when considering feature requests.
- Focus on clear and direct communication when writing to clients and the Owen team.
- Communicate technical information so that it is easily understood by non-developers.
- Mentor Developers, providing guidance about development thinking and best practices.
- Implementation of new management practices as directed by HR and/or upper leadership.
- Lead with empathy and compassion.
AREAS OF INFLUENCE
- Help set the direction for technical solutions across projects and Owen as a whole.
- Provide input to UX and design teams throughout all project phases.
- Provide sales support in pitches, scoping, estimates, project approaches, and other tasks as needed.
- Research and evaluate new technology as needed.

Salary : $130,000 - $150,000
