- Valid Missouri certificate; appropriate certification required
- Master’s in related content area preferred, but not required
- Criminal justice fingerprint and background clearance
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board and/or Superintendent may find appropriate
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education
REQUIRED PERFORMANCE AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Adheres to adopted Board of Education policies and maintains strict confidentiality as required by law
- Establishes and maintains effective relationships with students, staff and community
- Organizes and prioritizes educator workload to best meet the needs of students
- Evaluates pupils’ academic and social growth and keeps appropriate records of student progress
- Identifies pupil needs, makes appropriate referrals and works with special education staff to develop individual education plans
- Works well as a team member to serve all constituencies
- Adheres to and follows all deadlines and requirements as presented by administration/state/federal law
- Attends all meetings as requested by direct supervisor and district administration
- Develops a professional development plan annually and commits to life-long learning and growth
- Prepares written evaluations and maintains records which clearly and succinctly document services provided, student progress and discharge from therapy
- Complies with evaluation standards and determines eligibility for services
- Effectively communicates test results, diagnosis and proposed treatment plans
- Participates in the multidisciplinary team process regarding eligibility issues, individual education plan (IEP) development, consultation services and service delivery models
- Ensures compliance with established state and federal laws, regulations, policies, and procedures
- Prepares reports as needed by the school district and/or the MO Department of Education
- Develops treatment plans consistent with the IEP. Reviews therapy goals and objectives and makes recommendations for changes as appropriate
- Employs instructional/therapeutic methods and materials that are appropriate for meeting each student's goals and objectives
- Operates and maintains a variety of therapeutic equipment and trains others in use of the equipment as necessary
- Participates in hearing screening programs to identify and refer students with suspected hearing impairment and/or middle ear disorders
- Fulfills any and all other duties as assigned
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary for this position is actual placement on the teacher’s salary schedule or special placement on the salary schedule as approved by the Board of Education. Length of contract established and approved by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated annually by the Building Principal in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education policy using the Performance Based Teacher Evaluation. Summative evaluation forms will be forwarded to the Superintendent of Schools to be kept on record.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND VISUAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit. Additionally, the employee may occasionally be required to push or lift up to 25 lbs. as necessary for the safety and well-being of others. Lastly, this job requires the employee to have the vision ability to read handwritten or typed materials, and meet multiple demands from several people while interacting with other staff and the public.
