Job Summary
The Senior Accountant develops and maintains reliable accounting information on income, expenses, assets, liabilities and capital as a basis for management planning and decision making. Under the supervision of the Chief Financial Officer and Controller, the Senior Accountant is responsible for the preparation of internal financial reports and regulatory reporting. The Senior Accountant will also provide oversight and mentorship to junior team members.
Primary Responsibilities
Make general ledger entries as required.
Reconciles & reviews various general ledger accounts monthly.
Review and approve the balancing of various subsystems as required (ITMs ATMs Teller cash, etc.).
Review and approve accounting of payables, fixed assets, and prepaid processing.
Produces various monthly bank financial reports including board report schedules, ALM, investments, and others.
Produce and/or review regulatory reports as required (i.e. F.D.I.C., F.R.B., F.H.L.B.).
Work closely with the CFO on various department and bank reporting as necessary.
Responsible for continuing education and remaining current in banking accounting pronouncements and regulations pertinent to position and function.
Assists external audit firm, as necessary.
Acts as Bank representative with various external organizations and attends internal meetings as required.
Collaborate with senior management to strategically develop, implement, perform and maintain accounting processes and policies.
Perform and document analysis of accounting matters and provide recommendations to management and business units including those related to unique transactions.
Collaborate with lines of business to establish and/or enhance operational and/or accounting processes to improve efficiency and internal control environment.
May assist in the compilation and review of quarterly presentations made to the Executive Committee, Disclosure Committee and Audit Committee.
Support management of Interest Rate Risk and Liquidity Risk through production of reports, conducting insightful analyses, and making recommendations to management.
Provide oversight, coaching, and mentorship to junior members of the Finance Department.
Collaborate effectively with other Bank departments, prepare Annual Budget for review and approval of Executive Management and the Board of Directors.

Qualifications and Skills
Excellent financial management skills and financial institution accounting knowledge.
Must maintain a detail-oriented, investigative, and independent working ability.
Organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Interpersonal leadership, relationship building and planning skills.
Knowledge and experience with bank computers and operating systems.
Proficient PC skills including working knowledge of MS Office applications such as Word and Excel; e-mail.
Ability to communicate professionally with a diverse population of agencies and employees both verbally and in writing.
Ability to multi-task, work in a fast paced, ever-changing environment and maintain a commitment to accuracy and timelines.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required, or equivalent experience in previous role required.
Three to five years of practical accounting experience.
