TITLE: Substitute Teacher - On-call
SUMMARY: Reporting to the Building Principal, the Substitute Teacher provides meaningful instruction and classroom coverage in the absence of the regular Classroom Teacher; assists students with learning the subject matter in accordance with scheduled lesson plans.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Carries out a program of study prescribed in the lesson plans left by the Classroom Teacher.
Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives as indicated in the lesson plans assigned.
Employs instructional methods and materials most appropriate for meeting lesson objectives.
Records attendance in accordance with school procedures; ensures students are always attended to and not left without supervision.
May perform duties usually required of absent teacher such as hall monitoring.
Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive
classroom environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
High School Diploma required. Preference will be given to those with a college degree.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the subject(s) or age group being taught and the principles and methodologies of effective teaching.
Skill-based competencies include attention to detail and accuracy; exercise of judgment in carrying out tasks with minimal guidance and direction; operating a computer; Microsoft and Google applications; and familiarity with educational software.
Ability-based competencies include communicating effectively; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of the job, the employee may be required to remain stationary for extended periods; exhibit manual dexterity to enter data into a computer; comprehend printed material with or without vision aids; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms; and physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This job is normally performed in a school classroom environment and may be occasionally performed on field trips away from school. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
