We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of Senior Internal Auditor within our Corporate Internal Audit (IA) group based in Houston, TX.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform and assist in all phases of audits in accordance with internal audit methodology for assurance and advisory projects, including:
- Planning, gathering background information, and completing process narrative documentation and flowcharts.
- Executing fieldwork, preparing accurate, complete, objective, and timely audit workpapers, and working with management to validate observations and to discuss improvement opportunities.
- Finalizing audit observations, independently identifying root causes when possible, and offering practical recommendations.
- Wrapping up project documentation and workpapers.
- Assist with Contract compliance reviews.
- Proactively research business best practice concepts and attend external and internal training to develop and maintain skills to understand and respond to business needs.
- Assist with other areas, such as Sarbanes-Oxley (SoX) documentation and/or testing, as needed.
- Participate in special assignments and fraud investigations as necessary.
- Assist IA Management with administrative tasks and other assignments as required.
- Understand and apply all Company policies and principles, including those related to ethics and compliance, as well as environmental, health, and safety.
- Accomplish job responsibilities in accordance with Occidental's core values.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of three years of professional experience in business, finance, accounting, or related fields
- A minimum of one year of audit experience (internal and/or external audit).
- Oil and gas upstream and/or chemicals experience
- Excellent interpersonal, and verbal, and written communication skills
- Strong work ethic with a focus on organization, time management, critical thinking, analytical skill, attention to detail, and meeting deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Ability in compiling and interpreting data from various sources while maintaining a high level of confidentiality and professionalism
- Ability to prioritize work effectively when managing multiple tasks
- Approximately 25% international and domestic travel
- Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) and data analytics tools and techniques.
Desired Qualifications:
- Professional certification, or actively pursuing a certification (CIA, CFE, CPA etc.)
- Knowledge of COSO framework and Enterprise Risk Management (ERM).
- Experienced with SAP, Workiva, SharePoint, Power BI, Spotfire.
