What are the responsibilities and job description for the Process/Project Engineer (Direct Air Capture - Stratos) position at Oxy?
As the Process/Project Engineer at our Direct Air Capture facility in Notrees, TX you will:
- Supports the core values of the organization by maintaining a focus on safety, environmental compliance, quality, cost consciousness, reliability, and operations
- Supports and participates in programs, methods, systems, and practices for maintaining a safe and environmentally sound work environment
- Supports the safety process systems through participation in planned inspections, job observations, near miss reporting, incident investigation, area audits, and other programs as required
- Integrates quality concepts throughout the process with focus on process reliability and customer satisfaction
- Tracks production and efficiency problems, with a focus on continuous improvement
- Works closely with the Technical Manager and operations personnel to find ways to improve existing plant processes
- Provides technical expertise to reduce manufacturing costs and to improve product quality and overall plant reliability
- Participates in the design and implementation of equipment and process improvements, material of construction improvements, and efficiency and cost improvements. Tracks and verifies improvements results and savings
- Assists in coordinating engineering studies and projects, while also following through to completion on engineering assignments
- Reviews Standard Operating Procedures, training materials, P&ID’s, PFD’s, and other process safety information. Checks for technical accuracy, completeness, and consistency
- Coordinates Management of Changes, ensuring technical soundness of changes, and following up to ensure timely completion of all updates to affected process safety information and related training.
- Provides technical support to production and maintenance organizations throughout the plant to evaluate and resolve technical problems
- Develops, manages, and participates in programs, methods, systems, and practices for maintaining a safe work environment
- Contacts other technical and engineering groups for assistance beyond expertise and capability
- Supports employee training on proper handling and use of products, the importance of waste reduction and proper waste disposal, and in understanding the “why’s” of process operations
- Provides training to production, maintenance, and other departments, in the proper operations and care of equipment in areas of expertise. Develops the necessary training as required
- Keeps current on new technology and equipment and evaluates same for use in plant
- Attends technical meetings and seminars to maintain and improve skills as related to functional discipline and areas of maintenance management
- Assumes accountability for meeting plant safety goals and various other requirements including training, work permits, critical items inspections, job observations, housekeeping, reporting hazards and issues, and working safely in job assignments
- Actively participates in, and periodically leads, safety meetings, along with various other HESS programs, while promoting safety through offering recommendations to other personnel on working safely
Qualifications - External
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering with a preferred minimum 5 years of chemical manufacturing experience in the chemical or petrochemical industries
- High proficiency in Microsoft applications (such as Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint and Outlook)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to read, write and speak in English
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team and to develop team members
- Ability to make technically and economically sound recommendations with incomplete information and in the time required
- Self-starter with a strong desire to deliver superior results
- Strong analytical/problem solving/trouble shooting skills
- A proven team player capable of working in a multi-discipline team environment with a desire to share knowledge
- Ability to work weekends, holidays and respond to callouts on a non-routine basis
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs, climb ladders and stairs
- Walking, bending, stooping is required
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator and be able to respond to visual and audible alarms
